Best rigs & baits for surf fishing in local waters

Would really appreciate it if the regular surf anglers here can tell newbies like myself what rigs and baits are effective for local waters.

Currently all I use are apollo rigs with really short droppers (to lessen wind resistance/get better casting distance) + small circle hooks + worms (sarong/wat-wat)

Has anyone tried pinning a berkley gulp "cut bait" or grub type soft plastic on your hooks?

My recent shore fishing has been pretty enjoyable but I've yet to catch anything over the 1kg mark... maybe some tips/pointers from the ol timers will improve my results

i was just like u once..asking for help n all that so i shall return the favour.


For ECP fishing which i`m doing nowadays..juz dat i cant share my spot. Pun2 n prawn meat are killer bait.Sandworms work only during daytime(dunno why oso).Simple single hook sz 4 long shank daiichi hooks.. hook snood approximately 25cm n u`re good to go. there`s no need for super long rods, the fish come very close to shore to feed(dunno y is dat oso).

i`ve caught 1kg+ fish a few times. rig was casted out 30m from shore using pun2 n prawn meat. no results in the few times that i blasted the lead 100+m. try any where from brkwater 3 to 26..they feed mostly during smooth current uptide n downtide. most bites occur 2 hrs b4 n after full high tide. less than 50m will do..u won`t go wrong. what i did was to cycle ard ecp n fish at a different spot every week till i reached a spot where the catch rate is most consistent..dat was months of hard work n time consuming!!

Changi tanjong...sandworms are killer!! its juz dat u have to cast quite far to reach the feeding grounds. 80 to 100+m rough estimation. simple streamlined rigs with relay clips will do.

Thanks..bro..ECP quite happening ya...stickbom! n myself have tried boardwalk n along refuel jetty n so far landed a few smallies...we will definitely try ur recommendation...

see dat u r using long shank hook...is it as effective as circle hook? we r currently using circle hook...coz no need to "strike" wen it bite...hehehe
