    Arapaima Infomation
The arapaima, pirarucu, or paiche (Arapaima gigas) is a South American tropical freshwater fish. It is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, reportedly with a maximum length in excess of 3 m (9.8 ft.) and weight up to 200 kg (440 lb.). As one of the most sought after food fish species in South America, it is often captured primarily by handheld nets for export, by spearfishing for local consumption, and, consequently, large arapaima of more than 2 m are seldom found in the wild today.

The diet of the arapaima consists of fish or even other kinds of small animals, including birds. The fish also has the ability to breathe air from the surface due to a lung-like lining of its throat, an advantage in oxygen-deprived water that is often found in the Amazon River. This fish is therefore able to survive extensive drought periods by gulping air and burrowing in the mud or sand of the swamps.

The arapaima has also been introduced for fishing in Thailand and Malaysia. It is also considered an aquarium fish, although it obviously requires a large tank and ample resources.

    Chinaman Infomation

Queensland is remarkably fortunate in that of the 1,600 species of fish recorded from her waters; only a few of them are known to cause tropical fish poisoning (or ciguatera) when eaten. The storage of this toxin within the muscle and tissues of affected fish almost certainly increases with the age, and hence the size of the fish; also, toxic fish may store the material for some time, even when they change to a non-toxic diet.

The Chinaman-fish is one species causing ciguatera; although only occasional fish have this property, it is best to consider as a general rule that THIS FISH IS POISONOUS. It is fairly plentiful in northern reef waters at depths of 45 m. In older fish, the body is pink bearing dusky vertical bars, and with a network of fine yellow lines running over the head; young fish are brighter in colour, with 10-12 wavy blue bands running lengthwise down the body. There is a characteristic deep pit, or fossa, located before the eyes. The species grows to a weight of 15.5 kg.

Definition of ciguatera: Poisoning caused by ingesting fish contaminated with ciguatoxin, characterized by gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms.

    Weight of Fish : 8lbs
    Bait : Dead Prawn
Method : 2 hooks apollo rig I was doing bottom fishing when the GT speed off with my dead prawn. Later I check with captain regarding the depth we fishing & it was 30m deep only. The run of the GT is power. Really power I'm using a Shimano tiagra 12 reel at the time. Drag was pre-set 8kg at strike with a weighting scale beforehand. The 8lbs GT peel my line even when I sunset my reel (ie >8kg drag)...
