Invited along onboard a private boat to one of the southern islands for a project study. Since the island is quite near to a regular fishing ground, naturally took the opportunity to wet some lines.
Just about 3 hrs of effective fishing duration with total of 2 anglers & 3 sets of tackle. Absolutely one of those angling days fishing at the right day, time & place.
Upon reaching fishing ground, current was dead(transition period of changeover). Boat was swaying about due to variable wind. Not too long after all 3 lines were down, one of the rod was arching over. Rod action look similar to being snagged(line going below centre keel direction) due to boat movements & also a possible take. Friend managed to fight "suspected" fish for only a very short while before leader got busted. While friend was busy re-tying the busted rig, another rod register a good take. I set the strike & fought the fish for a while before passing back to friend. A grouper tipping the boga @ 29 lbs was landed. To our surprise, the first busted rig(hook together with bait) was found inside the grouper mouth !!
20-30 mins later, very slack current start flowing & another strong take was registered on one of the tackle. Fish was landed successfully & was another grouper maxing the #30 boga slightly(est 31-32 lbs). The remaining 1.5 hrs or so produce 2 more smaller grouper (est 9 & 2 lbs).
A trip ending with mixed sentiments since fishing for me has to take a back seat soon. Such ad hoc trip will be difficult to come by in the future as I'll be starting with a full-time job on 12 Mar 2007. More so when it's working half-day on Sat (as & when necessary).
Also like to take this opportunity to thank fishing friends & those private boat owners who had one way or another provided or created opportunities for me to earn some income while without a full-time job. In addition, appreciation to those who had spent time & efforts responding to some of my polls.
Till my next CR, here's the pic to keep the faith in local fishing
