Thailand Phuket CR April 07

April was a good month for fishing in Phuket. Most of our fish were taken near Racha Yai and Racha Noi Islands just south of Phuket. We used Repala X-Rap Mag 30 Silver Blue luers. here are some photos. Enjoy.

Din, We had a Quad.... 4 GT's on at one time rods screammmming all at one time. Lines going everywhere..... WOW!!! it was fun.

Is the charter fully equipped with the tackles? Or is it BYO?...or is that your boat?!!

The charter is equiped with good Penn International II reels. The gear you see in the photos in mine. You can bring your owen or use the boats. The Boat I use is Lucky Day, the Owner's name is Tim. His local number is +66 872642064 Tim is from England. His Captain and Deck hand are both Thai but speak good English.

Edylie, Yes it would be nice to do that but I feed a lot of people with those fish. As I keep very little for myself. When Comp fishing I do catch, record weight, and release.

I've just sent him a mail, so I'll see what he comes up with. I'd like to get a bit of jigging, trolling and bottom fishing in if it's possible, but we'll see. I'd have to join in with some other guys I guess, so also depends on what they want.

Hi Dan,

Managed to meet up With Tim & the gang and did have a good day out. Not many fish around, so only caught some Tuna and a few fish while we stopped for lunch. We did see a couple of sailfish, but not on our hooks!

There is a theory that the lack of fish is due to the state of the moon. The fishing is usually better when the moon is either full or new. In that case, next week should be better. I'm back in Malaysia now, so my fishing next week will be on the East coast in Kuantan - off the beach.

There are a lot of stalls around Phuket advertising fishing trips, and most are for the same 2 companies who use other people's boats. Tim is working for himself, so you are not paying a middle-man. His captain is constantly in touch with the other boats in the area, so if the fish are on, they know where to go. It seems they all go to the same areas anyway, but I know the captain really searches for the fish. We could see some good contours & fish on the finder, and the captain circled the area several times in the hope that we might hook up.
