    Hi FOs,
Just got back from a short working stint in the Maldives,Kandooma.
Managed to squeeze some time to do popping from the shore & trolling around Kandooma thila.
Popping from the shore with Yoz. hydro popper, got 03 GTs average 5kgs.as for trolling around Kandooma thila for 01 hr in the early morning, got 01 Dogtooth 07kgs,01 Red bass 09kgs ,03 Mahi mahi 03kgs & missed 03 big ones due to abrasions hmm.............50 # powerpro on calstar 600xl,SX 2spd.
    Enjoy the pics.

    Pemburu dude,

Boy thats what I call fitting in some fun after work... Wish I could do that.

Thats a real nice brace of GTs you have from shore. How does the 600XL hold up to 50lb braid and has the low gear on the tiny SX 2-speed come in handy?.

Rock on dude, nice report and pics.

    Thanks Dafrogman......
I like the 600xl coupled with the sx 2spd,I think it's a good combination, very light outfit,a very powerful reel, especially when you get a big fish, you have the low gear to reel in the fish, as for the calstar, alot of flex, sensitive & very strong, maybe might change the 50# spectra to 40# or 30# to get in more line. Will see how........

Dudes, whats the best way of cooking red bass and GT? Most of the folks I know say they taste lousy but you guys seem to have kept most of the catch. I know for sure bluefin tastes good when cooked in miso soup base. Please share your secret cooking recipe. Thanks!!

PS. I am not trying to start a C&R/C&K debate here okay? C&R isn't a big thing @ most of the places I fish at so it'll be good to know how to make the best of our catch

    Hi Stickbom,
I have seen & tasted the Balinese way of cooking the GTs,it's very tasty, ala Jimbaran. They butterfly open the fish & season the whole fish with sambal & grill over charcoal fire. The Maldivian way is call Mas riha, very spicy ,lightly gravyed everything including the stomach, heart & meat.....goes well with roshi(maldivian chapati).Btw,the 03 GTs caught that day,the Thai chef thinly sliced the fish meat & made fish porridge,power......As for the red bass is always good for fish head curry......ala Muthu's curry.....
    That's all from me....

Yo Mikey ....... those juvenile GTs are excellent in tomyam soup. The firm meat from their fillets do not break apart easily and as such is great for soup dishes. Their bones make excellent fish stock too. Yummy!!!!! But the best imho is bluefin trevally. Pan fry fillets in butter & olive oil & served with toasted or deep fried garlic slices is super duper nice!!! Next time you go on a live-on-board trip, just bring those ready-to-use tomyam paste and a stick or two of butter. You will not regret it
