    Maldives 10th to 18th Jan 2007

Jean Jacques, our good friend from Israel has organized a trip to fish in Maldives on Jan 11th to 18th 2007. Finally the day has come and on board of our safari boat Noorani 2 is Jean Jacques, Albert, Guy, Vincent and I (Edy).

Vincent and myself boarded Noorani 2 on the 10th since our flight landed the night before Jean Jacques flight. First thing we got was the welcome drink from our cook. It was a nice tropical mix fruit juice.

The next morning we met with Jean Jacques and his friends, we went to Male town to purchase groceries, cooking pan and some sinkers for light bottom fishing at night. Walked passed by a fish market and there were sailfish, plenty of wahoos, yellow fin tuna and a bunch of other reef fish.

This trip we were fishing down south and our very first fish was a Wahoo which was caught on a Halco Laser Pro 190 Deep Diver lure and of course this fish ended up as our Sashimi J

For the next few days we had fun on jigs, poppers and lures … during one of the nights, my Seven Seas rod break when I got a solid hook up while jigging ….

Guy is our perfect cook with very nice French and Israel style of food, Albert with his “Oh Pita” and of course Jean Jacques the perfect organizer!

To cut the story short (also my own short term memory loss) …

The following is the breakdown of fish which we landed using different fishing methods

Trolling: Wahoo, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dorado

Jigging: Red Bass, Green Job Fish, Rosy Job Fish, Giant Trevally, Big Eye Jack, Skipjack, Dogtooth Tuna, Coral Trout, Amberjack, Grouper, Wahoo

Popping: Giant Trevally, Green Job Fish, Coral Trout, Red Bass, Skip Jack, Barracuda, Blue Fin Trevally

Bottom: Morray Eel, Red Bass, Big Eye Jack, Bat Fish

During this trip we had lost some really big fish due to slipped knot, broken rod, cut leader

Popping: Huge Giant Trevally taken on popper unfortunately the FG knot give way, split rings opened and leader burst.
Jigging: 130 pound leader was cut, unknown knot slipped, improper hookup, a Seven Seas rod was broken near the butt area.
Trolling: a 2KG bonito as bait, the leader was cut.

The biggest fish for this trip (landed) is a 30KG Giant Trevally and smallest was a 10 grams reef fish both caught on poppers J

On our last day of the trip, we went to Rihiveli and Guili Islands. On the Rihiveli Island, we played table tennis and had our sumptuous buffet lunch with a bottle of red wine. J This is a very beautiful island and most of the visitors on this resort are from France. We could walk from one island to another one in the sea – waist length. Beautiful beaches, a school of milkfish cruising around. We encountered a school of Dolphins near the Atoll as well.

Another Island is Guili Island where we had our small shopping for some souvenirs (coconut husk bag, sea shell necklace, t shirts and etc)

I would like to thank Jean Jacques for organizing this trip, Vincent for being the mate going with me to Maldives even though he just returned from Perth – Samson trip, Guy and Albert for their wonderful company.

I have included the contact information for Noorani 2 and its charges on this thread.

PS. I have limited number of pictures due to battery outage on my own camera. Waiting for more pictures and videos from the rest of the team. I will post it once i have received them.

    Hi Ade,

It was SevenSeas - amberjack muroto revival, unfortunately the broken part is gone when the braided line is cut because the fish was "running" for its life.

    Cheers,

We like the boat especially attached bathroom... very comfy.
Moreover is only 5 of us... oohlala

After first day of popping... i applied number of salonpas to ease the muscle pain and strains.

Those FG knot i skip it for popping and used short leader to main line for popping.. and the result is good. Hehehe...

Edy, u should describe the sensation of catching your first GT... the exhausting look... hahaha.

I love the Maldives's curry.. very nice.. and the local there eat more spicy then us here... i can only take a bit of they chili fried rice

Special thanks to JJ, Guy and Albert for the good food and company.. really appreciate it.

    Cheers.

    Edy and Vincent
we had a great time together
fishing ,eating ,laughing shouting "oh pita"
even if we are from different cultures and religion the fishing gathered all off us as the fingers of one hand
    so different but so unified
Edy my friend you can be sure that this is not our last fishing trip together
the fishing was good but the big ones are still runing AH VINCENT!
All the pics will be mail to Edy

great CR Edy.. weather and sea seems pretty kind to you guys ya? a friend came back before you guys but weather was quite lousy during their trip..

Vincent, if only you had stay awake during our last trip Jason would have explained to you how to do a GT or a FG knot.. instead of keep watching "No Man's Land"

    Re: Maldives 10th to 18th Jan 2007

    MarkR,
It is a pretty good safari boat and i really like the idea of attached bathroom especially if you need to fish more than 3 days.

    Thunnus,
We had lotsa fun on the trip ... same part of the area we had non stop action on popping and jigging and certain areas is slow ... i guess that is
    the nature of fishing

    iam537,
We had good fun on jigging and popping.

    pemburu ikan,
Maldives is very beautiful and we love that place. Unfortunately i did not try any red bass even tho we landed quite a number of them. The deckies seems to like it very much.

    johnhoo,
    Thank you

    supersky,
The foul hooked GT was madness ... run and fight like hell but it was good experience!

    sailfish1,
Once again thank you for organising the trip. I would love to join your overseas trip next year if you are planning for one

    mark,
We were with 2M++ waves in the first few days but it was not too bad.

    dudiv,
It would be nice if we could fish together sometime soon

    Best Regards,
    Edy

    Hi Salfish1,

I got no luck bringing up the biggies.. nvm there is always next time. Hehehe.

    Hi Mark,

I think the "No Man's Land" is more interesting then GT or a FG knot to Jason.. Btw, those big GT take all my popper... @#$%^
I need to return your spare spool and line.. bursted on big GT, so shorthen by few meters.

    Cheers.

    Re: Maldives 10th to 18th Jan 2007

Edy, thats what i gathered too, cos when my friend came back the weather and sea states wasn't as calm as the back ground of your pics..

Vincent, dun bother abt the lost lines just help me transfer it on to a plastic spool if you have time or simply pass me the spool and i'll get the it removed.. so how many poppers have you guys leave behind in Maldives?

Jason love the "No Man's Land" alot and i bet he'll be watching it agin when i fish with him in April.. but this time i make sure he wouldn't get to finish the show..

    Edy,

Sounds like a great trip you guys had, glad things worked out and you have gained more experience on the GT side of things.

Norani looks like a very comfy vessel and I am sure that they will soon see more anglers from Singapore. Did Mikey lose any of the "Pets" he lent you?.
