This trip was initiated after signs of sharks happened to be around at one of our usual fishing ground. Last Saturday, 6 amigos then left Sillypore and head to Malaysia hoping to tangle with these sharks.
Upon reaching Tg. Leman jetty, boatman was already there and without further delays, we head straight to his home for a quick breakfast and start our fishing soon after.
On the first day, we did some light fishing for some fresh fish to ta-pao home. As usual, we caught leng chiams, sagai, bulats and assortment of coral reef fishes. Same goes for the second day only that we had an unexpected guest….This bugger took 20 mins to land. We had to take extra precaution since we are using 25 lbs leader and fishing vicinity is covered with coral reefs.
Everyone felt so relieved after the bugger was brought onto the boat. Wah piang eh….what a surprise! This must be the biggest Kim Chiu we had ever come across. Tip the scale at 8 kgs and was told by boatman that it’s the biggest ever caught in that area. Not long after, we had another strike. This time the fight was slightly shorter and within minutes, a second Kim Chiu landed. This one weighed 7.6 kgs. Since everyone was eager for some photo session as remembrance, we call it a day and head back to shore.
On the last day of this trip, boatman informed that only 3 amigos was allowed on this shark hunting expedition as the sea was a bit choppy. Since all of us are here for some shark action, we came up with a vote system using the traditional o-ah-pay-ah som way. Being desperate to go, I cheated my way to win a spot…forgive me guys. Armed with a Accurate 665H paired with a JM 400G and another set up consisting of a Jigger 2000 paired with a 15-30 Extreme X-Calibre (courtesy of Yazid Yogi), we then head out to the intended spot. It did not take long to get a strike since the current was to our favor. In total of 3 hours fishing, we had 4 to 5 very strong strikes suspected to be sharks but too bad lost all of them as they head straight to the reef. Our 100 lbs leader stands no chance against the rocks. Although we did not land any this time, we will be back with a different strategy next time. Thank you Team IMF…good kakis always makes it up if the fishing happens to be lousy.
Cheers
