    Knots, Knots, Knots

    Knots, Knots, Knots....

Just how many knots do you have to know to consider yourself a vaguely competent angler?....

This is a question that I have been asked before and my answer is whatever knots you know how to tie properly. Tying a knot properly is the key to knot strength. If you can tie a knot right, with your eyes shut or in darkness, I guess you have got that one down to pat.

I think I only know 4 knots by heart.... Three of the very basic ones and one I kinda modified over the years.

But since knots are a fundamental part of our sport, I am posting a link that has probably the best animated basic knot illustrations I have yet to see.

If you have pics or links, please post them too. I will troll through my harddrive and dust off some of the stuff that I have saved from the net over the years and try and figure out how to post 'em.

    Regards,

    Saimee

    Jap Bottom Knots

A whole bunch of Japanese bottom fishing knots to mix and match....

I have no idea on strength ratings, but they could help out anyone looking for ideas to experiment with new knots or to improve existing knots they are using.

    Nice thread.

My favorites for jigging and popping:

    1) Jigging FC leader to PE double: Improvised Fisherman knot
    2) Popping mono leader to PE single: FG knot
    3) PE double: 70 turn bimini with 13 turn rizzuto finish
    4) Heavy leader FC or mono to swivel/solid ring: 5 turn reverse trilene

Will take pictures when I have some free time
