Question: Color Braided line

Hi folks,

If I would like to color my Floruoscene yellow X-Tuf line, what sort of markers should I use? Have anyone done this before?

Reason being, can at least tell how much line has already been out...

Wouldn't it be easier to use marked PE? They're relatively cheap these days.

I'm with Mike on this one.

If you want to colour your tufline the whole length in different colours, it is just not worth the trouble, plus, the solvents in the ink you use might damage the line.

If you just want to mark a point in the line every 20-50m or so, all you need is to make a small black mark with a felt tip so you have an idea of the depth especially when taking into account the depth of the water you fish. I think that this tiny an amount of ink would not harm your line and I have used this method on occasion for certain species like Jap reds that like to hold at different midwater depths.

thanks... my original thoughts were to make a marking and not mark the whole length.. because braided lines dun hold dyes very well.. even their original colors are not color fast...

Just wanted to know if anyone have tried marking their lines at various depths... for me... I was thinking of making a mark every 10 metres..and every 50 metres...

I would use the japanese Jigging lines.. but the trouble is... I have limited equipment, and the PE strength that I need doesn't allow me to spool enough line.. therefore the super braids, or fusion braids can actually spool more...

Ah dude, I am not sure quite what you're getting at here, but I have found that there is very little difference between line capacity for the Japanese Jigging PE and braids/fusion/gelspun/spectra... they are made of the same stuff. The main difference in general is that the Jap PE lines are usually made up of more bundles of strands for a given poundage that are more tightly woven (i.e. better) than their US and Aus counterparts. This also makes the Jap Jigging lines rounder in cross section which is better for casting.

What PE/kg/lb size braid are you looking at and what application?. I am sure some of the old hands here would be willing to help point you in the right direction in terms of brands and types of coloured PE.

For example, the 80lbs Pline (I think its the Spectrex VI) is thinner than the YGK 8X Jigging line equivalent. Thus giving me the impression that I can load more of the Pline then the YGK.

My main objective is to allow myself to load more of the same poundage of line. Is there a thread or a website, that I can refer to when it comes to line capacity of a Stella 8K and a Ocea NR 1500P?

That may be tough... Jepun Kia dun use Ang Mor Braid and Ang Mor Kia seldom use Jepun Braid

Ahhh, IC.

Well, dude, I can't help you on an appropriate website. I can tell you that having used the (old) YGK8X PE6 and both Tufline XP 80lb, Powerpro 80lb and Stren 80lb, you might get a 20-30m variation of capacity between them. The Ang Moh braids tend to be flatter, but that does not mean that they will pack better on the reel.

What kind of fishing are you intending for your Stella 8k and OJ NR1500P?. If its bottom fishing, what depths are you looking at and if its jigging, I don't think that either outfit is built to jig in really deep (300-600ft) waters. Have you got a target line capacity for the reels?.

In any case, if you have already got the unicolour braid, I guess you can always try marking it out as long as you have a decent line counter and rig to despool and respool your line.

But the problem will be keeping track of the marks as you let line out on the drop or jig drop. A trick I use in bottom fishing is to mark the line just behind my stripper guide at the point where I seem to be getting the most bites. Then when my rig hits bottom, I just reel up to the mark.

Good luck dude. Mikey may have a better idea of comparative line capacities as he uses a lot more of the coloured stuff then me.

hahaha... bro... I'm saying that in general, most folks in Japan and the west behave that way. Here in SG we've got the best of ALL WORLDS IMHO we've probably got more exposure to fishing gear than anywhere else on earth! Dun say Jipoon Suah... you want to use mee suah also can! LOL

been going down to sabre for the last couple days... watching the birth of my FIRST custom rod... pretty exciting stuff... Mike's a nice guy... amidst his yarns of catches are pearls of wisdom... I did have a look at the Vivaras lines... but I have a better offer from the Big man at Deep Sea.

Is it correct to assume that Vivaras, Avani and YGK jigman 8X... they all the same one?

Any line from established line makers should work okay. Sunline, Varivas, YGK, Gosen are all good lines from Japan.

My trip will be in the next couple of weeks time, fishing near Bira, with the ever popular Chris Seo... right now, everything is pending on two other fellas who have yet to give us their confirmation....

I am told that line test minimum should be PE6... but with the current equipment that I have... i can only go as high as PE5 to ensure that line capacity meets the minimum requirements... ( I am told that need to spool in at least 300m of line)

I believe, that line capacity is more important than line test especially once you reached test of >45lbs.

although things would look alot better if I had with me a 20k stella.. but unfortunately, my usual supplier is currently out of stock....
