Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

    Dude,

I know that Edros had a QC, not sure which size, but he is away on a trip right now. I have only used the SST-12 which is a pretty different reel, but the drags are good. The SST is very well engineered and aside from weight, its a reel I like but do not use as much as my other lighter single speeds.

What application do you have in mind for it?.

Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

    Hi Saimee,

Bro, I'm not very good with the fishing jargons. hehehe.
When you say application, I presume that you mean where I'm going to fish or what type of fishing right?
I intend to use it for bottom fishing for an upcoming penghibu trip or sarawak trip. I think it should be able to fit in 300 yds of braid. Enough line for these kind of trips I guess.

Actually I bought it on impulse.... and I bought it because I intend to get the conversion kit later on hehehe.. don't have a clue how to set up the reel, drags etc.... Will probably read up on it today and experiment during my penghibu trip on tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Ezhar

Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

    Ezhar,

The Tiburons are very easy to use and set up. When you say conversion, do you mean the kit for a different gear ratio (speed of reel) or do you mean to convert the reel to an auto 2-speed reel?.

What sized braid did you want to fit in?. I think 50lb braid may be the maximum size you can use if you want to fit in 300m.

    Good luck on the trip.

Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

Bro sorry for the delay in my reply. Just got back from Penghibu.

Yes. I intend to convert ithe QC to the auto 2 speed. Thinking of using it for upcoming trips to malaysian and Indonesian waters. 300ms of 40 lbs of braids ought to be enough for these waters.......... I guess.

Only setback as you've mentioned is the weight of the reel its heavy compared to other single speed reels.

Posted this thread to seek advice from anyone who's using or has done the conversion on the QC reel. Hopefully Bro Edros will be able to help me out.

By the way bro Saimee, how is the gear shifting on the SST 12 and how effective is the auto 2 speed?

    Cheers

Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

    Ezhar,

The auto 2-speed is pretty much a love it or hate it affair. Some people love it and would not want to do without it, some people hate it.

I personally like the 2-speed mechanism. It also depends on your fishing style. If you are a "winch" the fish up kinda guy, then you may like the 2-speed system. If you are a pump and wind kinda guy, you may have to adjust your rhythm slightly to make full use of the feature.

The auto 2-speed is designed, so that when the resistance against the main gear, (i.e. your cranking gear) exceeds a certain limit (say 10lbs), then the low gear starts to engage automatically. This basically means that everytime the fish pulls against your line with a force of more than 10lbs, the low gear will engage. The moment the fish slacks up on the line e.g. when it heads towards you or if its swim bladder expands, then the force will lessen and the high gear will automatically engage. Its a pretty clever system. You can also change the amount of resistance needed to engage the gear shift. I have also found that the auto 2-speed is very handy for mono line, since the high gear allows you to rapidly take up the slack and stretch in the line, whilst the low gear helps you to winch in the fish.

My main worry is that the addition of the 2-speed sideplate and mechanism will be pretty costly, make the reel even heavier and unbalance the feel. Things worth keeping in mind.

    Good luck brada.

    Hi Lod,

Sabre carries Tiburon....I had an SST-8 once, could never get used to the auto-shift mechanism...I prefer to be in control all the time...that means making my own decisions on when to shift up or down...

Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

I have a QC 7540 but the reel is not to my liking ... I guess i am over the "gold" color reel fashion.

So far i have landed a 32kgs AJ and other pelagic fish on it (yes i was using the reel for jigging)

The last time i heard, Sabre is no more carrying the Tiburon Reels.

Anyone want to take over my QC7540?

Also it is possible to convert this reel into a 2 speed reel with its conversion kit

    Ezhar,
Were you the group went to Penghibu using Ahkiang boat last weekend? Seems like you guys had a good catch!

    Best Regards,
    Edy

Yes Edy. Was with Ah Kiang's Boats. 3 Boats, 29 Angler's. Were you also fishing in TP at that time?

Re: Questions on Tiburon QC7524 Reel

    Ezhar,

I don’t encounter any problems with my QC 7540. As mentioned by Saimee, the drags are smooth….very critical when a hard running fish is at the end of the line. I had an additional washer fitted to mine and easily got 26-28 lbs of drag without loosing free spool. Also bought a spare set of gears 4.1.1 to get a better cranking power. The biggest fish landed on my reel was a 65kgs Reef Shark. The QC 7540, 7530 & 7524 shares the same internals which are interchangeable. They are easy to take apart for DIY servicing.

I’m sure the QC 7524 can easily handle any fishes normally encountered at the places you mentioned.

Personally, I love to own a QC 7524 provided they come in different color.

Hi...i have a QC7524 and it's loaded with 300m of 65# Whiplash. Was having less than 10# of drag and e-mail Tiburon. They're fast in reply and have send me 2 washer, with instruction on how to install.

BTW....can anyone mail me the schematic???

    Cheers
