Jokes aside, I think anglers are getting stronger these days... everyone seems to be fishing 30lbs of drag :P No wonder there's so much tackle failure lately

Fact of the matter is the claims by the manufacturers are getting more & more preposterous because they have figured out that to consumers, HIGH MAX DRAG=Better reel. I may well be totally wrong, but I think this "misguided perception" is evidenced by the many posts we see in forums asking "What is the max drag of such & such a reel"

As far as tackle failure is concerned, in most cases, I think it is a case of human failure to use common sense

BTW, has anyone actually tested the claims of the Stella 20K being able to dish out 20kg of drag -- with OR without the line threaded through the rod guide. If it is really achievable, my question is will the reel be able to maintain a constant smooth drag with minimal fade or fluctuation in an extended fight.

Pretty true dude, I also wonder whether a spinning can survive on 20kg and how long does it last...

did try test loading with my Stella SW20k till 17-18kg drag recently(measured with spring scale which have a max loading weight of 50lbs), load the reel into the reel seat, thread the lines thru the guides and tie the end of the main line onto the scale but didn't dare load the rod, just did a direct pull test, line used 80lbs, found that its able to achieve that drag way before its being fully tighten, didn't try if its jerky (cos just trying to achieve that drag limit only and i'm more worried that the line might just breaks anytime) but it gives me quite a worrying feeling.. fearing that something might break kinda feeling but lucky everything holds out eventually.. however, i must stress that IMHO, the feeling of such test is total different to a normal fishing situation, during such test i just have a feeling that the reel probably takes more beating that actual fishing even tho its not supposed to be.. but it could be just me thats having such feeling..

"Blue Heaven" refers to the type of language used when you;

1. pay for the reel,

2. the scratch it for the first time,

3. when it seizes up on your 50kg Samson,

4. when you next first regain conciousness from the stroke caused by the reel seizing up,

5. when you receive the medical bill for the stroke.....

P.S. 15kg drag is plenty for my back....even my doctor says that having 3 fused Lumbar vertebrae does not mean that you can go over 30lbs of drag all the time.....hehehhe

the above was just a drag test which was carried out just purely to test the drag that i hope i would get from the reel but i'm sure i'll probably not be able to take that kind of drag setting..and of course i dun fish trees and motorcycle either

if motorcycles or trees are at the end of the line, i'm sure even winch or iron bar will give way but like what GL says i can build a rod you can't break but you wouldn't want to fish with it.... that sets me thinking....is he trying to say only good rod break???
