I was booked on a Sedili wreck bashing trip with some friends on Friday but was down with flu earlier in the week so had to give up my slot. Felt much better Saturday morning...It had been a long while since I fished the southern islands wrecks and I really wanted to try out the new Alutecnos Gorilla 12C as well...so called up Ace Guide Eric who works at Kaiser to check if his favorite pawang was available for a night trip to the wrecks off the southern islands...
We were armed with madai jigs, metal jigs and some inchikus as we wanted to give jigging a try at our favorite local wreck in 30m of water.
The night started slowly but luckily we managed to net some good squid. Squids seem to be season now so we were secretly hoping that the Ang Chos would be around...
We had to re-anchor several times to get boat positioning spot on. Down went the first rig but current was too strong so I gave up on the 60g and 80g madai jigs we had brought along...no choice so we had to do baiting with the squid we netted...
The first bite came quickly and not before long both myself and Ace Guide Eric were into some good sized Ang Chos and Groupers...the hot bite continued for 2 hours and we managed to land Jahans, Queenfish and some Barracuda as well...
Overall a fantastic local trip by any yardstick with many biggies...managed to land my personal best Ang Cho at 13.5lbs with my new Gorilla 12C loaded with Izor spectra 65lb. I was also happy not to suffer any pulled hooks this time round and have to thank the smooth quad lever drag on the Gorilla partly for this. Look forward to doing some serious jigging with the Gorilla on my Alor trip in a few weeks time
Tight lines
Overall score:
6 Ang Cho- smallest 2kg, 2.5kg x 2, two at 3-4kg, one at 13.5lbs
3 Greasy Grouper- smallest close to 3kg, largest over 4kg
Several big queenfish, 1 x Jahan and some Barracuda...
