Bottom fishing off Pulau (Tukun ) Perak

I'm 70 this year and have been fishing since 1960. Have done my fair share of both fresh and salt water fishing but in all that time have always enjoyed my fishing trips and outings and cosider that catching fish is just the bonus. That's why I have stayed with this hobby for so long.
The most memorable fishing trip was the 12-day trip to Ulu Terengan (Upper reaches of S Trengganu)in April of 1976 with my brother and two friends during which we caught so many kelah, tengas, kejor and sebarau that we lost count! Of course that was before the Temenggor Dam was built. Believe it or not we didn't catch a single toman and I attribute that to the fact that we were only using Abu Islands and Salars! Compare that to 3 trips to Temenggor after the dam was built where we caught only toman using live bait!
I cut my teeth on freshwater fishing in Ulu Muda for sebarau in the 60's with my sifu using only spoons (Abu spoons - the most successful for serbarau being tne Kaleva). Again I stopped fishing there after the dam was built but its still a good place for the green kelisa and huge haruan if you are able to avoid the bubu and commercial nets.
My most recent fishing trip was from12 - 15 Jan 2008 for bottom fishing off P Perak and had quite a good catch of jenahak, mangrove jack, GT and bigeye trevally,cermin and yellowfinned barracuda.

Hi and welcome to FO. Its really great to see that you are still enjoying the sport and I can only hope that I will have the fortune and blessings to do the same in time to come or even to get to 70....

I know nuts about freshwater fishing but your experiences in freshwater luring before the dams were built are fascinating. Tell me something, having seen fishing technology develop over the last couple of decades and having started as an avid lure fisherman, what do you consider as the biggest advance in fishing technology?.

wow...before the dam was built! Fishing must be very excellent back then. Was it hard to trek up to Terengan? I recalled there were threats from communist guerillas activities back then.
I'm happy to see at your ripe age you're still fishing! Please share more stories..tnahk you.
