    Stellwagen Desert

I was up in Boston for a Biotech Conf a couple of weeks ago so took the opportunity to fish Cape Cod and the Stellwagen Bank for Atlantic Bluefin Tuna.

Unfortunately, the Tuna were on hiatus. The Cape was dead so we did the miles up to Gloucester Bay and Maine even but could not find the feeding schools. I had good chase blind casting on the first day at the Cape but did not connect, big fish, possibly >70 inch.

There was a giant bite up on the bank so we switched to kite and balloon baits on the last day. Some boats got lucky with big fish. The boat in the pictures below landed a nice 680 pounder, which could have eventually made it's way to Japan.

Tuna casting pioneered by Ichiro Sato from SOULs is arguably more popular than GT casting in Japan today. This is a must do trip for serious jig and pop anglers. I'm planning a revenge trip at short notice when the bite picks up in sep/oct, can take at most 1 extra angler so if anyone is keen, pls PM me.
