    NTT Expedition 2-5 Oct 09

Just returned from a expedition trip to Nusa Tenggara Timur...we fished Pulau Alor, Pantar and Lembata...unfortunately the monster GTs were not in feeding mode perhaps due to the series of earthquakes which hit Sumatra and the Pacific islands...nevertheless we had a good time on a new LOB mothership with tender speedboat...

Total number of GTs landed was approximately 30 with the biggest 2 fish over 30kg...personally managed a GT over 30kg with a Zenaq Fokeeto FC 83-7 and Kaiser El Toro red/black chugger A mate of mine had a number of strikes with a red/black El Giovatta pencil too...other lures that worked include Hammerheads and Craftbaits...I also had a shark perhaps around 40kg on the Zenaq and a Maggy Gara Stickbait...

Also managed a few fish on jig with the Synit Venom 400 paired with OJ 4000P...managed a small doggie on a Komo jig 275g, the same jig produced a Blue Cod...Fisherman shotguns 300g also worked well for me giving me a nice Golden Maori Perch...lost the shotgun to a bust-off and strong take near the bottom...

Other tackle used by my mates included Carpenter rods and a Komodo dragon. The Zenaq Fokeeto FC 80-10 produced several fish for me too...

Overall a satisfying but very tiring trip for me

Here are some fish landed on Komo 275g Jig (Doggie & Cod) and Fisherman Shotgun 300g (Maori Perch)...the Synit Venom 400g worked very well, the rod is super light and you can jig with it all day...the tip is responsive and imparts a good action to long or short jigs...good "hang" time too...the funky pink Yo-Zuri FC was what I used as leader

The El Toro chugger that worked very well for me!

With the bigger GT I had a Gamakatsu recorder break...switched to a Decoy and had the Decoy tip break on another fish too! The NTT GTs must love the red/black bumble bee El Toro

    Hi Mark ,

Congratulation with the successfull trip to Alor , a good variety of species there both by popping n jigging which make fishing there far from boring , just fantastic !

    Jon .
