    Fun Fishing in Jakarta

Red Snapper lokh chiak action at Pulau Seribu, Jakarta, Indonesia with Pak Kwik the Kakap Merah Specialist...

50 Snappers in 1.5hrs...amazing action! Majority close or over the 2kg mark...largest 4kg

Glad we released 80% of our catch...wife had a good time landing close to 30 snappers...double hook-ups galore!

Great fun with light tackle...V150FT paired Conquest 800F and 30lb Izor spectra was sweet! Check out the bend with the double reds

To finish of a great day out at sea we had Kakap Merah prepared in 3 different styles- Assam, Sashimi & Sweet Sour...Shiok!!!!

    Hi Mark ,

I see you have fun with pak Kwik , he is definitely the best person for this kind of bottom fishing . Did you try jigging them with small jig / soft plastic ?

    Jon .

    hi Mark,

Ha...I see smiling faces. Good to see that.

The sizes of your catches are definately the bigger ones.

    Hi Ghani,

Thanks for linking me up with Pak Kwik. My wife enjoyed the fishing tremendously! Two of those kakaps on one line will put up a real struggle, really shiok on light tackle! This type of fishing is very relaxing, short and sharp trip with good results.

    Hi Pak Jon,

Unfortunately my wife left the jig bag at home as she thought that they were just another bag of sinkers! So I was left with assist hooks and no jigs for the trip Planning a return trip soon, this time I will leave the sinkers at home! No chance to catch up with you either as we only spent 1 night in Jkt.

Pak Kwik is da man for this type of fishing...he told me his record was 375 kakaps in 2hrs

    Cheers,
    mark

    Hi Mark,

was the trip concluded once you filled up the icebox or did the boatman allowed u to fish longer since u release your catches?

Any other type of fish other than red snapper? Any issue bring the fishes through the custom at jakarta?

Must call Robert to hear his long winded version of the trip.......

    cheers

    Hi Adrian,

We continued to fish releasing most of our catches. Pak Kwik would puncture the air bladders with a needle (see picture) if they were inflated.

Only red snappers landed, Pak Kwik is a red snapper specialist, we fished at closely guarded secret FADs. No problems bringing fish back through Jkt airport either.

We might have had a couple of Tengirri takes as well...

Robert was not with me on this trip, I had to call off the trip which was planned with Robert and Tiong because my dad fell ill.

I will be organizing another trip soon...want to join? Guaranteed catch barring any earthquakes and unfishable weather.

    cheers

    Hi Mark,

Great fishing!!! Look similar to the species I caught at the GBR years ago. They are supposedly different from the Red Snappers we catch out of the SCS.

Lesson learnt ...... ALWAYS pack your own bags!!!!

    Best regards,
    Makaira

    Hi Mak,

    Yes, lesson learned!

Those snappers of yours are huge!...but I think a little different from the ones I caught which look more like the typical Ang Kuey we get in this region.

Next trip will be a jig only trip

    Cheers

    Hi Mark,

I was expecting a CR from u for this trip end of may........did not know u postpone the trip.

Keen to join u for a trip if there is slot available. Let me know the dates in advance so that i can plan my return trip to s'pore to coincide with your fishing trip. Should have sufficient krissflyer points to change for a air ticket to jarkata.

Bought a canon 550d and a tamron 17-50 f2.8 vc recently. I am spending more time reading in clubsnap forum and looking around for camera stuff in bangkok now. Fishing is taking a back seat for this few mths.

    cheers

    Mark,

Some tips on bringing fishes back from Jakarta...

If you are staying overnight in Jkt before flying home, packed your reds in plastic bags (tied the loose top) that could fit in 2 to 3 reds in one bag and deep freezed them in your hotel freezer. Tip the employees for such service. Once frozen you dun need to put ice and there is no fluid duing flight back. If the frozen fishes thawed along the way, it will be contained in the plastic bags.

At customs in Jkt airport, if asked, tell them its frozen fishes. From my fortnightly experiences, they let me go. Mine is normally 70 Qtz full to the bream of kakap, groupers , kerisis etc....

BTW, this week end, Pak Kwik is booked... he he he.
