| Senior Member | Survey on Zone 1 fishing Brunei Was out with 3 friends to test his new engine on the 27thMay and 31stMay. Started early at 6 am in the morning. During both dates, engine ran into some mechanical problems so we decide not to take the risk to go out very far. Furthest went was only 7km frm shore. We were right. Our local waters seems to be running out of big fishes. We caught lots of baby grouper and some coral fishes. Due to the small size and quantity of fishes near shore, we release all dat was caught for them to grow and let em survive to fight when they are the right size and weight. Total on each day fishing on catch n release was nearly 30 to 50 fishes within the range of 10gm to 400gm estimately. It was no fun but then we got to preserve nature of nearby shore fishing. Hope this will be a good example to other anglers who keep small fishes that never will satisfy the nature of sport fishing and their appetite. Peace!( Sorry no pics guys n gals) |

I assume not all know how long does a certain specie to grow such as grouper, baramundi and etc. i think this kind of info is critical so people can appreciate the effort of preservation and the effect of bagging everything they catch. who knows that i a fish might to age 2 years to gain10 kg? So, anybody please share any info with regard to fish growth. |

| Moderator | Re: Survey on Zone 1 fishing Brunei As with any efforts for conservation, you must firstly have the law to support the effort and every bit as importantly, the effective and impartial enforcement of the law. Next up is education. Without education, it is impossible to convince anyone, let alone entire generations of the importance of conservation. As Bebatik pointed out, the more information you provide the public in a transparent manner, the more successful will be your message and ability to convince people. For Amberjack as an example, if our local population of Amberjacks were declared a sportsfish only species and enforcement and education involved putting a commercial value on the fish alive that outweighs its value dead, then I believe that our Amberjack schools and sizes would really pick up. A tagging program would demonstrate that these schools are local fish that probably stick around our waters and would also convince people that the same fish can be caught on artificials more than once and are a renewable source of income. Finally, commercial fishing. Ahhhhhhh commercial fishing. I've said it once, I'll say it again. Firstly, BAN TRAWLERS. Secondly, conduct proper patrols and Catch and Prosecute foreign fishing vessels. Thirdly, enforce the law fairly and impartially. I have seen too many situations where foreign commercial fishing vessels hammer our waters seemingly with impunity, whilst small time commercial operating locals get prosecuted for fishing within 500m of oilrigs. Whilst both are breaking the law, which one is damaging our resources more. Sighhhh.... I'll get off my pedestal now. Regards, Saimee

My Mood: Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Re: Survey on Zone 1 fishing Brunei That is a good idea with regard to the amberjack conservation! we can do the same this like they did in Rompin with the sailfish! From what i heard that the local fishemen in Rompin rather become sport fishing operator than commercial fishermen as it provides them with guranteed income than relying on the income from the catches of the day. The nearby Brunei water do offer a variety of sport fish such as sail fish and and occassion catch of juvenile marlin. |

Just came back. My friends outboard engine was fixed and we were planning to head off to maharaja or iron duke. Morning pushed off from jerudong beach at 6am. Engine sounds good and at half throttle we were goin like 55km/hr. Decided to get some live baits at champions reef and a few wrecks. It was a good start with groupers frm 1kg to 3 kg. Some belais, sulit, Andupin, and krisis was also hooked up during the early morning in the rain. The sea was considered calm but wind was blowing strongly from land. Guess what happen next... Decided to make a move to maharaja at 8am as the rain died down but as we engage in the gear of the engine, one of it was suddenly wonky and we think its the main gear ( must be crack or what we call gigi's missing. So, we decide to head back slowly and look for patches which still survive nearby. Back on land by 3.30pm. Not what i had in mind of my sunday but oh well.. Neways, u sound like u fish with me before?may i know who? Cos i dont recall your username.sorry dude.My schedule is hectic too as many events coming on the way. But if you have plans to fish, do let me know | |
