Re: Arm-Tui liao

I had the pleasure of fishing in the comp this year, this years comp had quite alot of big doggies.....In terms of Dogtooth Tuna size Team Wasabi had the biggest of 56kg by bottom fishing, followed by Team Wahoo of 55kg on jig. Team Wasabi had a total of 6 fishes, all dogtooth that weighed 250kg in total! Winning them the team event, a truely great performance from a great team. Yellowfin Tuna biggest was arnd 20kg, caught on troll and was part of a triple hookup by Team Wahoo, together with a 97kg Marlin. Besides the more "conventional fish", loads of monsters like the 70kg kaotun and loads of monster escolars came out this year. Note that not all boats did well, some could not even fill up the quota of 6 fish, and only those lucky few that hit the correct spot at the correct timing did well.........

Thanks JIGW for your info.

70kg Kaotun also came out.... very good instead.
Though i heard is 70+kg YellowFin Tuna.. that's must be a mistake.
I still haven't got such opportunity to fight one.

Just one question:

Anybody swearing at night on line cut by hooligan of the sea... Baracoutta.

Cheers.

Yes!!! We were one such team, by third night no more sinker and langgong liao, due to the coutta........at one point 6 of us had lines cut one after another.......in less than 5 minutes.......pity didnt get to see the 20+kg monster couta tat was submitted in for the individual event, that would surely look scary.....

Sky,
Paste from MFN...

Hi All,
Sorry for the late posting, but had to catch up with some work which have been neglected over the past few weeks.

I am going to send some of the photos of the Rolex IGFA to Vincent after this posting.

The Rolex IGFA Labuan Intenational Fishing Tournament 2006 is charaterised by the biggest number and lagest in size Dogtooth Tuna caught in the history of the 10 year old Tournament. Prior to 2006, the largest Dogtooth Tuna landed was 56kgs, this year the biggest was 60kgs, but there were more than 10 fishes above the 50kg mark with numerous more in the 35kg to 49kg mark.

The volume of fishes brought up was much more than previous years as reported by most of the boats. The newly opened reef of Terumbu Peninjau (Investigator) produce the top 2 winners of the tournament.

This year we had 30% new particpants from both domestic and international areas.

Team Wasabi from Tawau, weighed in 6 Dogtooth Tuna with a total weight of 250kgs coming in first place
Team Geofish from Sarawak/Sabah weighed in a mix bag of Dogtooth tuna and Escolar wih a total weight of 233Kgs coming in 2nd place
Team Etamax from Penang came in 3rd place with a mix bag of doggies and Escolars
(Full record will be posted to Vincent for posting)

This year we saw for the first time, the major top tackle manufacturers and distributors supporting the Labuan tournament. Diawa sponsored Saltiga Reels to the value of Rm30K, TCE sponsored Finz lines of 50,000 metres (Rm20K), Shimano, sponsored a full team and outfitted them with 6 units of Stella 20K, Haiyen, Proline etc sponsored entire teams for the tournament. This tournament has become a challenge ground for these big time players. Next year, we hope to see Rapala/VMC and some other very prominent Japanese tackle manufacturer participating in the tournament.

Most encouranging and also the highlight of the 2006 Tournament for me as the organiser is the fact that the participants are now coming for the tournament for the challenge and the prize money has become secondary.

It started with Team Etamax from Penang donating their 3rd prize of Rm8000 to the Persatuan Orang Cacat Labuan. Team Rod Warriors folloed Suit by donating Rm1,000 being their prize money for the heaviet Yellowfin Tuna caught. Team Wasabi then donated Rm750 for their individual prizes. There were also other individuals donating their prize monies to the same charity. We also had pledges of a further Rm16,000 from participants who do not want to be named.

Team Etamax further challenged Team Wasabi and Team Geofish that if the prize money was donated, they would double he amount Rm30K and donate it to the same charity.

This is the spirit of sportfishing, I hope will be part of the Labuan tournament. Come for the challege, come for the fun, come for the friend, not for the mercenary intention of winning the prize money, which I will again endeavour to increase again. This year the first prize winner went away with about Rm40K in cash and kind.

Congratulations to all the winners and see you all again next year

Wah Power...don't require any high ends stuff to catch big fish. This is a good example. Hopefully Jason will change his mind

Hahahahaha!!!! Me way too old to indulge in popping liao ....... I would also like to add that amongst the many variables that will affect fish feeding patterns, timing & local knowledge also plays a very important part for fishing in any part of the world. Or maybe those guys are simply LUCKY!!!!
