| Senior Member | Hey Anglers and Fishing Fanatics, On Saturday evening we decide to take a look at the weather forecast and despite the ongoing news of Typhoon Man Yi, we decide to headout as the sea seems reasonable. So we prepared the boat and got it down on the water at 1am sunday morning and made a move at 2am after final check on all equipments, artilleries, safety devices, Life jacket; etc. The waves was quite significant at 1.2 to 1.5m but with very strong winds, we decide to stop at a nearby rig 40plus km off the shore ar. There were 5 of us and the 3 (ol-skools) of em started bottom fishing with handlines. As only me & my friend (Captain Boy) was the only one equipped with rods and Reels, We decide to jig away. Captain Boy was the first to strike at the 3rd drop of 200gm W.R Jig equipped with a Thomas Stroker PE5 match with a Torium20 and manage to hook up a Bulan-Bulan (local name for it). The next 2 drops from him manage to hook up a Languran in around 2 to 4 kg. I was giving my OJ and Carps a workout with 350gm jig cos was targeting for Giant Mama's around but there doesnt seem to be any bite. So i went for my lighter artillery which is an Expert 4-8 paired with Kaikon 3000 and a W.R Jig weighin 200gm as well. After 3 Drops i manage to hook up a decent Bara around 4kg (which later turn into sliced bait). On the next drop as I was slowing down the speed of the jig dropping with my fingers on the braids when suddenly before it hit the bottom something pulled my line out instantly, so i lock up the Kaikon at 8kg drag and start fighting which lasted 5min. Its not a bad fight as i had to turn a couple of click before the line stop peeling out when Captain boy also had a got sumthin hooked to his jig (DOUBLE STRIKE) and was quite please when it turn up both of us hooked up a languran each. The fishes seems to be biting jigs more than those with handline & baits. Overall in within 8 drops i manage to hook up 2 Barra's, 1 Languran. Capt Boy and me gave ourself high 5's as its been a long time since we been more successfull in jigging compared to the others using baits. As the wind and waves died down early morning, we head out 25km further and hope to hookup snappers. This time the guys with handline manage to hook up 2 Red Snapper within 3 to 4 kg and a few grouper of similar weight. The Sounder is showing alot of fishes but not really into biting despite our tries with bait & jig. By noon, we made a move to one of our favourite FAD, and everyone had a Krisi's Mania. In within 3 hrs, we hooked up nearly 70 krisis of all weight. I was too tired out to jig so i bottomfish and also set a bait on my hook with drag setting up to 10kg on my OJ and let it drift for something to strike it but i lost one as something strike and during the fight the monoline gave way. Well most of us didnt sleep during saturday due to work so we decide to call it a day and head back onshore. Dont have much photos to show as the guys left as soon as they were on land except for Capt Boy & me as we had to clean up the boat. Hope you guys enjoy the Catch Report and looking forward for another trip in the near future. Peace to all and keep the lines tight! Last edited by Akudou : 17-07-2007 at 11:33 AM. |
