Re: We’re Now Certified Yellow Fin Tuna Anglers

Those are indeed true albacore, congratulations on such an unusual catch. They prefer cooler water so normally caught deep in tropical waters. I have a feeling some of the YellowFin Tuna you caught were actually Bigeye tuna. The two species are very similar when that size so it can be hard to tell the difference but some of those YellowFin Tuna look a lot like bigeye.

That method of fishing you describe, deep fishing with bait, was this close to a FAD? Nice looking blue water. Did you see any tunas busting, dolphins, or birds diving in open water on your way out and back?

Putting out a live tuna can be a GOOD idea if you want a biggie. If you can catch skipjack tuna or frigate mackerel/kawa kawa they are normally better than YellowFin Tuna as a livebait.

Dafrog that's a monster dorado!!!! Any photos?

Hi Patudo,

During one of the trip, we had encountered with sperm whale or was it humpback ... it was huge!

We have seen boiling school of tuna with birds diving down for bait fish too. It was two years ago i went there.

We were fishing near the FAD for YellowFin Tuna and sometimes we search for the boiling school by looking at diving birds.
