Rep Power: 5 ![]() | SailFish Boogie 12Aug2006 to 13Aug2006 Goodness me, can you believe it, another year gone so quickly and Rompin’s Sailfish season arrives once again. I was going to base my this catch report on Sailfish, but since - during this season - Sailfish congregate in Rompin in prolific number, like, Tamban in Bedok Jetty. So I thought I might instead talk about the cuttlefishes, leatherjackets, lizard fishes (as known as lanjiao fish) we landed. After a sumptuous dinner in Johor Bahru, and a journey filled with jokes and laughter while we watched fishing VCD in the passenger seats, as Mark zoomed down the freeway and negotiated corners professionally like Michael Schumacher; we arrive in Rompin late Friday night. Too excited to sleep, we spent our time setting up tackles, joked and talk cock until the wee hours before finally willing to retire. We woke up bright and early after what feels like ten minutes of sleep to get our excited asses for wanton noodle breakfast and travel to the jetty for the commencement of our two days Sailfish adventure. Doing what all Sailfish sport fisherman must go through, we started our adventure by jigging for bait fishes. I know I’m out at sea with the correct people, and this is gonna be a hell of a weekend when even jigging for bait fishes become so much fun. I suppose other boats within our one kilometres radius must had assumed we’re a bunch a lunatic, from the amount of scream and laughter we generated at that bait fish spot. And bait fish was not the only thing we caught at that spot. Rick and Jason must have brought up more than enough cuttlefish to feed a whole restaurant of Fish & Co customers within the half an hour, that, I will definitely nominate them both for the Rompin ChekBuk Award should there be one. The whole sea is indeed full of cuttlefish like our friendly Captain told us, and cuttlefish was not the only thing that filled the seas of Rompin this season, we found out. Leatherjackets were everywhere too. Drop a cuttlefish head near the surface of the water count to ten and you’ll see a entire school of leatherjackets appearing out of nowhere, surrounding and pulling pieces out of your bait. You can net them if you want. But we being the yaya papaya fisherman that we are, we swore to let no fish into the boat unless we caught them using rod and line. Even with rod and line, we caught so many leatherjackets within the short period of time, that, we probably had enough leatherjackets’ leathery skin to sew a line of Versace winter season leather jacket collection. And Jason jigged so many lizard fishes in one session that made us don’t crown him the Prince of Lanjiao (fish) also cannot. Day one ended on a high, at the seafood restaurant, with a table overflowing dishes made out of cuttlefish and leatherjacket in various cooking style that made everyone so full until we had to find space in our stomaches for the ten durians - that had no problem putting D24 to shame - we bought for dessert. Of course we did not manage to finish all the ten durians we bought that night, we kept some for the next day to eat on the boat while fishing. Day two was somewhat similar to day one but only more exciting and fun. And we have video clip to prove it. To watch click: www.limbueytor.com/upload/RompinSailFish01.wmv (one word of advice - turn UP your speaker volume) P/S: I had seen Sailfish leap majestically out of the water after being hook up probably a thousand times on photos and video. But nothing beats the feeling of watching one soar above the sea right in front of you while battling it. Better than sex, I tell you. |
