Miri GT trip

Zip, Poland, Matsutageh, Hiang and me headed to Helang oil rig kacau mama GT, this is a pure jigging n popping trip no bait allowed onboard. Arsenal used Tokara, Ripplefisher, Kamaja, J/m, Seed, Saltiga pop, 7seas ultra 55R, Tuna Mania export model, 10k, 20k, Exp, 6000GT and Dogfight.

Jigging we landed lots of big eyes jack at night, dawn all tengirri, alu-alu, rainbow runner n mama GT, we only manage to land one small 15kg GT by Zip the rest all braided line, steel wire or either shock leader given way. Enjoy the pics.....

They plan another trip (after organiser wife delivery), this time we'll head to Vietnam rig target 50-80kg GT ( they caught 1 80kg and 2 60kg GT 2 weeks back). The destination takes 10-11hrs, commercial boat rental Rm10k, width same crystal coral long within 80-90 feet. Including ice and 3 meals, so MarkR, ChrisT, Sky, Jason, mikey are you guys ready 4 mama GT once trip confirm?

Pic of commercial boat............

Re: Miri GT trip

Jason,
I suggest something PE#8-10, the 6000GT that i used set at 15kg drag, when GT whack i locked 4 more turn to stop line peeling out.

When we land our catches mama GT always try attack our tengirri, it looks 5ft in length, it's back something 8-10 inchs width.

Btw, you guys can organise one team coming over. The guy with bloody GT is boat owner and 10k is 4 3d2n trip.

Re: Miri GT trip

Cheng,

Should have tried the handline tied to boat, sacrifice one of you rainbow runners for live "lure"... Then at least you get a benchmark GT....

Nice one dude, good luck with the next trip.

Ok. Last week of May can? Or is this too late?

PS. Just wanna check if we need to be in "tactical" mode for oil rig bashing...if it's a covert ops kind of affair, I may be too chicken!! Don't wanna trespass and get into trouble.

Re: Miri GT trip

Cheng,

The fishing done seems a bit too close to the rig, chances of landing the mama will be quite slim as these buggers will head towards the leg upon hook-up. I think you need one of Saimee's bottom cannon to jig...lol

Hmmm... I still prefer the handline for ultimate make or break... then use engines to get away from the rig on hookup....

Tried that once many years back, but its a freak accident rather than intentional. Hooked up a fish (should be quite sizable) on a 80lb handline, and captain didnt notice and sped off. So tied the handline to the boat and in the end, only a piece of "something" was left on the hook

lets try this later this year

Cheng thanks for the invite but I'm using much lighter tackle these days. Don't think I'll stand a chance against those monsters!

In that case your 9' CB one Boron cheap cheap sale lol ...haha

MarkR,
I talk to the boat owner this noon, normally they do drifting and keep distance from oil rig. The only problem if rescue boat around will be chase away, if this happen they will head to E11 rig which Kuching anglers landed 50kg GT last year.

Ade PS,
The rod you should ask Mikey my friend buy from him. Eh...compare to Imperior PE#6 a bit soft.

Physlo/ Saimee
Not only your crew kasar Matsutageh worse, no bait no handline onboard. One more thing only first GT that i strike toward the rig the rest all headed downward.

More info... depth 50-80m only, lot's of 3-4kg emperor red down there.

Hi Ghani,

You n Kenny gangs (pelagic) are more into popping shouldn't miss the chance and the cost consider reasonable, 4 those onboard Crystal coral should know our organiser POLAND (the guy with grouper).
