Catch Report - 6th-7th May Rompin Trip

KAKIS - Robsen(Ultimate warrior of all Anglers), Azmee(Airbag), Brada Shah(The champ), Stanley(Cowboy from HELL aka MAK DIA), Lawrence(Cool dude), Shah (FPIP aka Mr O), & yours truly, Zul ZIKO(kecoh kia).

Everyone met at Azmee's place in Woodlands and by the time the boys were gathered, it was 8.30. The night promises a fine windy weather and soon, we were in the van heading towards our neighbouring country, Pahang, Malaysia. Journey consisted of only 1 stop and lasted abt 4hrs. Too short to feel the tiredness bt long enough for the boys to be restless.

Day 1 (Touched down) We settled in & started preparing tackles for the upcoming morning. Ambience was great as the boys started 'TCSS'. Around 8 in d morning, we got gearing for the game. Upon reaching the jetty we were warmly invited by the skipper "SAM". Headed to UMJAM to catch some bait fish.

Managed to only obsecure few selars, kembongs & tambans. but enough of that. While jigging for baits, a baby tenggiri was hooked by yours truly. This escalated everyone's hope and spirit as it was a form of good sign of more tenggiris. Some of the boys rigged some baits for tenggiri bt unfortunately, there was none taken. Decided to end the baits and headed for the sail fish spot.

Upon reaching the spot, Sam the skipper prepared the rig for sail using balloon drfiting method. We waited. In bwtn waitings, some of the boys did some bottom fishing, popping and jigging. Caught few of groupers, leng chiams, acks on bottoms.

Changed to another spot by late afternoon. Set another rig for sail. After much time passes by, suddenly a line started to spill out. Everyone was momentarily dumbstruck but within a split second, Sam immediately jumped from his seat, grabbed the rod and set the hook. Soon after, it was time for Sam to pass the 'golden rod' to someone(us) but everyone was a little shy, nervous(unprofessional) . Reason being we were still a virgin in this game fishing. Finally, the golden rod was handed over to Shah FPIP as he was the nearest victim to Sam. Shah tried playing with the sail and what was thought to be a good pull, turns out otherwise as the line started to slack. No idea whether it was a sail or some other fishes. By then, weather started to be very uncompromising and sky turned dark. Sea changes colour to a darker shade and started to swell. Robsen suggested for us to head back and we share his view 100%.

Routine on land - bathed, dinner, browse around and sleep.

Day 2 - After much discussion, we decided to go bottom for parrot. Headed straight to parrot's spot. We used mudcrab for the bait as its the parrot's favourite eatery. This came as a surprise as seeing the box of mudcrabs resting comfortably in the styrofoam box gave us the idea of eating the crabs rather than using it as baits. However, a man's gotta do what a man's got to do. We used it for baits. While doing the bottom for parrots, Robsen did some popping on stickbait. After few castings, his lure caught on something big but sadly the line burst. We assumed the failed catch was tenggiri. Sam did some jigging using metal jigs. After 3 castings, he manged to get a 3kg grouper and everyone was amazed at the catch. From then on, everyone started to bait their rig with crab-meat. Brada Shah was the 2nd to score - a 2kg parrot. Stanley next on the line - a nice table size kaci. Onwards, one after another, alternatively, groupers & parrots were landed. Smallest weighing est 2kgs and biggest at 4kgs by Azmee aka AirBag. Overall champion for the trip....BRADA SHAH who caught the most parrots. Congratulations from the boys. The day came to an end about 6pm.

Shore - distributed catches, took a shower, clean up our tackles and prepare for departure. Left premise about 9.30pm ETA Singapore abt 1.30am.

Summarising, the trip was enjoyable even though no sails were landed. Though the main point of the trip was all about SAIL FISHING, it was more of the bondings and cajouling that we had with each other that made the trip a memorable one. Like they say, a good fishing kaki is hard to come by. We certainly had the "knights of the round table' on this trip!

THANK YOU'S - Thanks to Robsen for planning and organising the whole trip/event. It was superb. Thanks to Azmee "airbag" for initialising the trip. Wouldnt hv happened if you hadnt started it. Thanks to Brada Shah for joining us on the very last minute and making it an enjoyable one despite his bag being the "punch-bag"(bag was drown in live well). Thanks to Stanley (cowboy from hell aka MAK DIA). Thanks to Lawrence for being quiet. We certainly need the peace after all the kecohs. Thanks to Shah FPIP for causing all havocs, chaos and HELL BREAK LOOSE. The trip would not have been a sucess without all of you.

Pics will be out soon. Stay tune.

Cheers
ZUL ZIKO

Great Catch Report Ziko. So this trip no sail There's always another time it's only the timing. The company of good kakis is important in any trip. That makes you forget about poor catch Congrats to the champ Sha Boleh.

Thanks again guys,

We will definitely make a come back to Rompin, this time solely for our main target...the Sails during the "peak period" and if we could slot in for the parrot bashing, why not.....

Brada Zaini, as for the kakis new nicks.....why not, we meet up someday with the kakis and you ask the guys how they got their nicks......you'll die of laughter i can bet you or i'll leave it to Shah "Travolta" FPIP to tell you the whole story...eheheh .

Cheers,
ZUL ZIKO
