Rep Power: 5 ![]() | 4th June 2004 - Nenasi, Pahang The boat generator failure incident on 21st May 2004 in Mapur, left Edy and myself with no choice but to head back to shore denying us the opportunity to fish. We decided to go Malaysia to try our luck and this time Nenasi in Pahang was our chosen destination. The evening of 4th June 2004 saw both of us joined a group of five driving up to Nenasi, in between stopping over in Kota Tinggi and town of Rompin for some supper and coffee. We arrived to our chalet in Nenasi at 2.30am, giving us a much needed few hours of rest before we got up at 6.30am to get ready for the day’s fishing trip. Our mode of transport to our fishing spot was a fast but simple fiberglass boat with just a shelter over the top. Upon reaching the first spot, all anglers on boat eagerly set up our tackles and rushes to the live bait well to only discover that our bait was live prawns of sizes not bigger then my pinkie finger. Majority of us decided to attach 2 to 3 prawns to our hook hopping to increase the visibility of our bait to the fishes below. Maybe our baits are too tiny and insignificant that we caught only small ‘johnson’ until we ran out of live prawns baits and we moved to the ‘unjam’ to jig for some bait. The live fish bait prove to be useful to a certain extend as our boat landed 2 good size tripletails with it before the day’s fishing activity comes to an end in the evening. A nice cold shower after a day’s fishing under the sun freshen us up before dinnertime. Staying in fishing village exposed city dwellers like us to an alternative set of lifestyle where peace, tranquility and cricket sound prevail. Day two of fishing was not a very peasant experience for some of us as the wind picked up over the night and the sea was pretty rough for the first half of the day. However, the much awaited for action begins around mid morning, sending my rod bending fanatically and my reel drag screaming for mercy non stop. It was a long and hard struggle with the fish, in the midst of it the boat’s captain Walter had to assist me to loop my tackle around the anchor rope to undo an entanglement created by the fish before I could resume ‘fighting’ the fish. For the 8 to 10 minutes the fish did countless number of dashes before coming to a halt near the surface, leaving me trying to lift it up to the surface. My hard work paid off when the boat’s captain gaffs and hoist the diamond trevally into the boat. That was the only mega action for the day before everything resume back to normal, we begin to catch ‘johonson’ after ‘johnson’ again. Until late afternoon, we start to bring in cuttlefishes, within 45 minutes we caught at least 20 pieces of cuttlefish with squid jigs. Fresh cuttlefish proof to be effective bait as Edy experience a very strong take on his bait sending his rod bending and reel screaming before his 50 lbs braided fishing line snaps. Not long after that we saw rain over at the far side, giving us no choice but to end the day’s fishing earlier to head back to shore. Despite our effort we all still end up caught in a heavy down pour. This fishing trip officially ended as we packed up early and headed to Mersing for our seafood dinner stopping along the way to buy some durian home for our family. Total catch for the trip: 1 Diamond Trevally – 10.3kg 2 Tripletails – 3kg & 4kg 1 grouper – 700 grams 20+ cuttlefish – 150 to 600 grams Countless ‘johnson’ |

Honestly speaking not worth going all there way to Nenasai when its ex and fishing without live prawn or sotong sucks big time... And most funny thing is there is only particular psot where u can receive phone recpetion... But if you still wanna go ahead ask or book for the Old man skiiper with his biggest boat.. more resourcefull and friendly lor.. he can bring u out further for sail fish ... Cheers... | |
