BSR and Barra in BKK...

Dear folks,

Just came back from the BSR and Barra pond in Bangkok, got Mekong Cats and Kims added to my photo bucket... Have been hearing the BSR story for a year and finally have a chance to made a trip there with my wife.

Reach Bangkok at 9.00am, after check-in, immediately drive over to the BSR. Reach BSR around 12.00pm, register, pay $$ and set-up. Start to fish at 1pm and total landed 6 mekong and 2 patin, ending the session at 5pm. Heard the Mekong cats over there grows up to 70+ kgs or more but I only managed to land merely 20kgs+. Anyway that is already my best record for Mekong as I am a 1st timer there .

As for the Kim, I was brought to another pond which I believe it was a different operator from what you guys had gone before. We have only 4 ponds to lure around. We reached the place at around 8.30am and from start to noon, I was the only one hook up a kim (only 3.5kgs) with rubber lure. None of the us have a bite on it... It seems to me that nowadays the Kims have all obtains PHD , it's just refuse to take lures or rubber. But after lunch, once you put on live bait, it just hook up immediately and those kims weighted much heavy than my eariler catch (min 7kgs max approx 12kgs) ... It was just none stop fight (one shot one kill) till we finish the bait pool. End up we enjoy our catch with all the live/dead bait just like bottom fishing instead of luring.

Hereby attached some photos to share with you guys!

Nice reports and pics Raymond

It's amazing that you now need to use live bait to charm those pond KBLs in BKK

RC311

According to my fishing buddies in BKK , all the farmers have sold the barras due to recent increase in price from overseas buyers hence the barra ponds in general are all pretty empty of the fish .

To catch only 1 barra in all that time is rediculous , I used to catch over 30 fishes in a half a day fishing .

Well , we just have to find the new pond or new target fish then , I go to Minburi's Fishing World for toman n pacu as well as occasional barra , but these are wild fishes .

Whoa..., congrats man !

I noticed Ah Chai there...... hehehe3x he's a nice guy. Too bad the KBLs are hard to get with lures now.... When I've been there they were hungry like hell, even swallowed my small skitter pop (7cm)..... One cast one strike.

cheers,
Lod.

Hi Ray,

The pond in the background was the one I went there before but I thought I was told they have closed it temporarily for six months to let the Kims grow bigger. How is Ah Chai's charges now.

Anyway good report and nice pic. Keep it up.

Cheers

Re: BSR and Barra in BKK...

I was at the Barra pond last year. Tried rubber, spoons, jigs, diff colour lures etc. But realised they like the orange/yellow colur lures.

Juz this 1 lure, landed 15pcs between 10 to 20 lb.

Thanks for sharing bro.....

Will try 'em out this week end, hopefully it's like you said.... I'm targeting wild KBL, so far I'm nearly frustated. Saw it jumps a couple of times, shows that it was there.... but no popper, spoon, soft plastic etc. could seduced 'em to attack !
And so far never used bright color (yellow / orange)....... allright who knows ?!

Bro, not really on the barra pond. My intention is to try out all my lures in the barra pond which I brought 40++ lures over... End-up only live baiting.... never have a chance to hook up on my lures... so like of bore!!!

Re: BSR and Barra in BKK...

now is a bad time to go fishing for Barra as there is not much big fish in most of the farms in BKK. best time to go this year is after july.

hi rc311,

i thought you supposed to use lures only for the kbl pond ? are you saying the pond owner allowed customers to use live/dead baits in the pond ?

regards
