Tanjung Pinang - 3 to 4 Nov 07 - Trip to Forget

A "can be forgotten trip" I must say......
Catches were few and far between for our season ending trip to Tanjung Pinang.
However, there were some notable moments to share:

A busted rod - Ryobi 30 to 50lbs rod.
2 straight out busted line. Something "big" just pull, rod bend and "piak", line just busted like that.
1 case of zzzzzzzzzzzz............zzzzzzzzzzzz...........zzz zzzzzzzzz....and "piak" main line busted also......

1 other biggie (we believe is a stingray) also had the mainline busted after more than half an hour of endurance and tug of war by 4 anglers(1 female + 3 male) on a 20 to 40 lbs setup. When we managed to reel in about 10metres of line, it will peel another 10 metres out....really stubborn..So if you guys wanna target biggies, please prepare heavier setups....

It did looked like its going to rain after our dinner and lighting and thunder could be seen and heard in the distance.....when the rain finally came, nothing at all, no nibbles no nothing...we just prayed the rain will stop soon enough......

Soon the rain stop and the big Sengs did put up some zzzzzzzzzz........zzzzzzzzzz......zzzzzzzzzzz...ac tion after the rain...kinda demoralising but what to do?
A screaming reel is definitely better than a silent reel anytime..

Towards day break, 2 notable catches were the Golden Snappers landed.
1 weigh in at 4.5 kg while the biggest catch of this trip was weigh in at 5.5kgs.....

Just to share some pics from our last trip for this fishing season at Tanjung Pinang.

Me with my tug of war which we believe was a stingray.....

Tag team by my buddy Vincent......

There were also many arrowheads and greeneyes being caught.
Either by scoop or by squid jig...There were a lot more which we used as bait......

Our disappointing overall catches.....The tengirris were all landed by the boatmen, none of it caught by us.....

My buddy with the biggest catch of this trip....

Well, Many thanks to all who were on this trip with me.....Hope to fish again together soon.......
Till our next fishing season at Tanjung Pinang......

Ohhhh...one other thing to share before i forget...
One of the kakis managed to overcome sea sickness! Great stuff! He is already asking me......"When is your next booking with "...."

Cheers!

P/S: Just a note to those going over to Tanjung Pinang, the monsoon wind is picking up, just be careful and safety first! Good luck and happy fishing!!

Thank you for sharing th2x

I am wondering what were those escapee mamas ... could it be shovelnose?

Fishing in Tanjung Pinang is unpredictable nowadays ...

Regards,
Edy

Hi Edy,

Really got no idea for those busted ones. Could be shovelnose....
The one in the pics which my buddies and me fought but could not land, think it was a stingray...from my two earlier experiences which I did managed to land. But was on a slightly heavier setup of 30-50lbs rod.

Another group did managed to land a 30+ kg leopard ray though.

I figure its the unpredictability of offshore fishing at Tanjung Pinang which makes us want to go back there for our fishing.

Cheers!
