Tanjong Pinang (21/22 Oct'06) Great Sagai Harvest...!

I wish to thank all help received from fishingouting...[Thread : Need Pointers...[tackle setup for ray] ] Unfortunately the current not favourable & didn't managed to hit any rays... here's my Catch Report

Our tanjong pinang trip was scheduled for 21/22 Oct '06. There's a total of 8 anglers fishing at Ah Kiang's boat. We arranged meetup 8.15am @tanah merah ferry terminal. Around 9.30am, we all check it... soon, we reached tanjong pinang ferry terminal.

From the jetty there, we walk to a provision shop to buy some drinks/tibits to enjoy later on fishing boat.

We head straight to makan after the drinks are settle. All guys are staving liao. slurp........finished my lunch

Everybody full liao... then mai-tu-liao we head straight up Ah Kiang's boat. This is the biggest most comfortable fishing boat I've taken.

Though everybody very tired after travelling for about 5-6hrs. All anglers setup our gear 1st before

Hm... somebody playing poker

Very soon, the rod hanger all full house liao... late comers have to keep their rod at the side fishing rod holder...

Now, let's see the boat surrounding... the side of the boat very wide. See, one deckie sleeping and yet still have plenty of space for others to pass through easily... The 10 person bedroom is very cosy... arm with air-con and fans Of course pillow and blanket provided too

Toilet clean... only abit wet

Boat captain drove us to reef area. It's already 5pm liao... we drop 2hooks apollo rig down. Fish biting but unable to hookup. Some anglers change to sabiki. Landed quite a bit of reef fishes including leng jiam/ bei he/ leather-jacket/ Hai seng/ small reef ang-goli...etc 2 sucker fishes spoted. A angler lower his line too slow, was attacked...

As I didn't bring small sabiki onboard, I stick with my 2hooks apollo rig. Here's my 1st fish....

We continue to land small small fishes... soon sky became dark, it's dinner time

See him eat till shiok shiok like that. I took 3pcs chicken wing small drum makan. Then have to stop, stomach and head spinning... Here's my last photo before I KO. Better go rest before I puke...

Half way sleep, boat captain woke me up. Say they met a school of sagai. I couldn't get out of my bed... I went back to sleep... Again later our team leader came to woke me say everybody keep landing sagai, very shiok, everybody very tired, ask me come have fun too.... Though I still not well, I follow him out. Drop my line, a strong pull.... strike, fish on.... as drag too loose, slowly increased my lever drag to stike which is pre-set to 10lbs liao, fish still peeling line. I thumb the spool, fish gone I just hope to land 1sagai only All these while fighting the fish, I'm having cold-sweat. [Me really not well lah] I re-bait and got 2more hits but didn't land the fishes... then I throw up shortly after... Sorry guys, I put full effort in...hoping to land 1sagai. Didn't take photo. No strength, not well... I head back to bed after I lost my 3rd sagai. Couldn't stand it liao. btw, fishes still biting at that time hor...

Later 5am plus, I woke up feeling much better. Think better hurry up catch some fishes... went out, saw alot of small birds flying/ resting around boat.

Went outside, bait my rig... was shocked to see bodies everywhere Think about 10-20bodies around...could it be outbreak of the tanjong pinang bird-flew!

I witness mudering took place. A falcon just flew pass me, snap a nearby small bird with it's claws... the bird still chirping for It's sad for me to see that... anyway, I go lower my rod. A falcon came and rest beside me... With lightening speed hand, I grab the bird... A deckie came by with another falcon at his right hand. I pass him my falcon to take photo...

Continue fishing... register no bite. Stomach hungry liao and breakfast was served. My first decent meal onboard...

After breakfast, boat captain drove us to a nearby reef. Fish there for a while. No bites at all... we decide to call it a day. Now, here's our catch for you guys to drool...

Deckie scaling the reef fishes...

Deckie keep some fishes for themselves...

We laid the sagai neatly together for photos...

We dun know how many sagai landed. We tried to count the sagai but gave up half way... beside the sagai given to the boatman, we divide the sagai among us (ie 8anglers). Some get 12pcs, some get 13pcs and some get 14pcs. We conclude it's over 100pieces...

It's a very wonderful experiences for all of us, nice trip, nice fishos, nice makan, nice boat and most importantly nice sagai.... I wish to thank everybody for sharing the sagai. Remember, I didn't land any Thank U all for your time reading...

cheers,
stingrray

Boat deckie ask to clip the tail feather away. Both falcons released unharmed. btw, I didn't bring any jig that day. Even with bait, we can land until siao. Total 8anglers. 2anglers including me down. Only 6anglers fishing with 1 hook each time. If 8anglers fishing and each tie 2-3 apollo hooks... think we can land 200-300pieces sagai

Yeah but you've got some jigging gear too right? A red hot sagai bite is perhaps the best scenario a newbie to jigging can have a feel for the game. Anyway... try taking some dremamine before boarding the boat next time... and stay away from the boat's diesel fumes. That will help ease the discomfort. Keep the reports coming

Stingrray dude,

Sorry to hear that you were out of commission during the bite.... arrgghhhh!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with your ray hunting, maybe next time you'll run into something mean without being seasick.... Next time aside from the dramamine, I guess throwing up early helps some people.... stay away from fried food too.

Regards,

Saimee

Yup, I have jigging set with me that day But didn't bring any jig...

For seasick, I took strugeon. Pop a pill in 8hrs before I departure Singapore. Then every 8hrs take 1more. As for boat diesel, this particular boat's engine is cover... not much diesel fumes. Anyway, when boat travelling, I sleeping happily inside air-con room...

Maybe have to go for more boat trip to get myself season...

cheers,
stingrray

If can, I prefer not to make myself throw up... having fluid pass throught my nose is something I want to avoid... btw, I took 3 tiny little chicken wing drumlets only as dinner... smell really nice when it's fried...

cheers,
stingrray
