| Moderator | My Padang trip...... Hi guys This is my recent report to Padang. Fishing is not really up to our expectations but the people, scenery and local food is worth mentioning about. The flight to Padang takes only 50 minutes from Singapore. From the plane window view , one can see the numerous islands and blue water paradise beneath.Upon reaching the Airport, many tourists are seen with surf board and straw hats ... Once Lod and Jouppy arrived from Jakarta, we procced to a 2.5hours to Painan..The journey is back-breaking and tiring. One can see many views from paddy fields to busy roads of lorrys and motorcycles. Cows and chickens are all seen roaming the roads and the smiling faces of the local people can seen everywhere in the town.Jokes and laughters accompanied us along the journey, soon the Zzzzzzz monster caught me and everything went blank........ Once we reach the hotel, we are welcomed into the only aircon room available so the four of us managed to squeeze in. We are invited by the local fishery department vice-head for dinner along with the captain and his deckies that are going to be our guide for our fishing expedition.Nasi Padang are the local food served with steam rice and coconut curry fish head ....After everything has been arranged for the fishing tomorrow, we will brought to choose and view our vessel at the port. The vessel we chose are big enough for at least 10 people but the speed of the boat is rather slow but the steadiness and seaworthiness are more important. After that, we went to get our supply of food and drinks. MaMa stalls are seen everywhere along the towns and very well-stocked of food supply. The next day , we proceed to the port for the boarding and began our 2 hours ride to the fishing spots. The fishing is not really worth mentioning but the williness of the captain and the diligence of the deckies are up to our standard ... Soon the 3 days of fishing expeditions are over....... Reaching the port , we are welcomed by the head of police department who is also a fishing maniac and soon the topic on fishing are on our conversation. We also got to view the local Famous bridge which has a 800 years of history. The bridge is being formed by tree roots forming the bridge across the river.I forget the name of the tree but this tree can be seen in Singapore. The last night there at Painan,we pay a visit to the Head of fishery department. The humble people leaves a deep impression in my mind of Padang. The turnoff part was when Lod injured his legs while onboard.Lod, Pls let us know about your condition.Hope U recover soon..... Overall, this trip feels good and full of fun and laughters accompained by Lod , Jouppy and Mark. Its my pleasure and honour to be able to fish with u guys.. Cheers Jason

I had all the medical things that I feel necessary, x-ray and anti-tetanus injection. It was happen in the middle of the night. I felt so hot and decided to fish again alone..... There was a bit dark in front of the boat and still with sleepy eyes I didn't notice that the hole (use to keep the anchor) was opened ! I fell into it !!! My left leg was hit the rusty anchor inside the hole..... I couldn't move for several minutes, oh man.... that's really hurts ! Jason, thanks for the report. Oh btw, did you missed 'the girl'.... ? cheers, Lod. |

All in all, yours truly & Jouppy can enjoy this trip, especially with the accompany of Mark & Jason, who were made us laugh so loud, thus can 'heal' the grief because of slow fishing....... cheers, Lod. |
