Hi Mark,

We can try, I think they will by slow jigging in the 150m - 200m range.

That is not the only shark we caught, we boated another 250kg 6 gill the following night, picture shown. It was released unharmed and in good health back to the deep.

Hi Chris ,

It's good you release the other shark , even better in the future you release all the six gill shark as they are considered endangered species in Indonesia due to indiscriminate longlining and we sportfishing communities don't want to be considered " indiscriminate " fishermen too .

Jon .

Re: Mambo In Marasende

Thank you for sharing Chris! Amazing fishing out there.

I would agree with Jon on this, even if the shark was given as food to the villagers ...

I guess 500 Sing would be able to get the same amount of food for them but could we buy the shark for 500 Sing?

Best Regards,
Edy

True and I agree, but to be honest, I made the decision to kill because it's mouth was littered with 3 sets of hooks, out of which 2 sets were lodge between the upper and lower lip. It would not be able to survive and feed naturally if the hooks are not remove. As we do not have proper wire cable cutter on board, plus it was doing it's death roll, too dangerous to try to dislodge the hooks manually. At that moment, decision was made to give this magnificent adversary to the villagers.

Below is the pic of the 3rd sets of hooks still lodge in it's throat with a 7 kg dogtooth bait still dangling. The other 2 sets have been removed for safety reasons after it died.

Sorry, just to clarify, we were all using 2 hooks rig, the shark ended with 3 sets of hook is because it went on a buffet round the boat, 2 bust-offs. It finally met it's fate when it went for it's 3rd round. Thanks

Re: Mambo In Marasende

Do you use stand up rod with harness to catch those monsters? Size of multiplier something like tiagra 50?

I suppose your bait is something like 8-10 lbs? what's e size of the sinker used for it to sink 200+m to the bottom?

Very noob in this type of monster fishing, hope someone can enlighten me. thanks!

Hi Lance.

50lb - 80lb stand-up gear is recommended for the type of fishing we do in these areas, bait size is usually 3kg -10kg. Depending on current, we normally use 500g - 1kg of weight.

Hi Bro,

All you have to do is request, These 3 places are also my favorit. But Kakabia is damn bloody far! 8days to 9days trip if you want to cover all 3 areas in 1 trip. Let me know, I'll make it happen. Cheers

Request have been brought before you time after time .Yup kakabia is the farest of them all, that why local fisherman also don't want to go to far for them,a good place for screaming reel ,breaking line with non stopping action.
Yes it's take about a 8 to 9days trip to venture there ,not a problem been there done that before.

Yes, they sure are! I've encountered Mama Yellowfin Tunas outside Takabonerate enroute to Pulau Kakabia. We were using local boats and it took us 16 hours from the Latondu to reach Kakabia. We could see 2 ft long sickles, but not able to catch up to them due to the speed of the boat. This island is a bird sanctuary, fringe with swaying coconut trees. If my memory serves me right, there is an underwater cave. Lots of seabirds. Seagulls and frigates make this island their home. No villages, lots of phosphate ..... birdshit. The sandy shallow beach is home to a few types of baby rays, namely spotted & leopard rays, a nursery of sorts.
