Escolar on JIg - Sulawesi

Just got back from Takarewataya / Sulawesi. Braving 3m swells and very strong winds as the monsoon has already set upon us. Fishing condition was extremely difficult. Bites were ferocious, numerous bust-offs on Doggies and Big Bottom Dwellers.

Aftermath......

This Gargantuan monster from the deep was landed in 178m of water in Sulawesi...... ON JIG!

Chris,

Alamak, that is a monster fish on jig. The fact that it is an Escolar is even more amazing.... What outfit was the angler using to jig in 178m?.

You guys are right about the 3m seas, I got hammered already last month.

Regards,

Saimee

Saimee Dude, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Yea, Most of the fisherman here advise not to head out due to the rough sea. Even Mr Kahar told me its not safe yet to tag me along. Anyways, the GF410 have not been built yet but i planned to move the reel seat 0f 10 inch to the reel seat from the gimbal instead of 8 inch. What do you think? and how long should the EVA handle be after the reel seat? Thanks in advance for your upcoming info bro

Re: Escolar on JIg - Sulawesi

Hi, I have seen a couple of escolar landed on jigs from around 100m water. The jig was one of the old 175g lumo sardine that "taka" used to sell. But the bigger one landed was slightly over 20kg, not the monster caught this time round. Gear used then was a trini on a daiwa grandwave.

Re: Escolar on JIg - Sulawesi

Wish we landed at least 1 of the numerous doggy bust-off that night. Somehow, the fish won the night! They were ferocious with missed hook ups and busted line! So frustrating!!!!!

Re: Escolar on JIg - Sulawesi

this Oil fish is really really big.. not like that one caught in Bira.. I think its also because the conditions of the boat was better...

Bet the guys were comfortable even though it was pouring rite? Popsa is a very comfortable boat for 4 persons.
