Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Southern islands - 12 Apr nite Set off around 7pm & headed to main current channel to drift for live squid till abt 10pm. Weights used for the nite ranges from 300 - 1300g (on power pro #50). Didn't take shelter from current since heavy tackles were used & 1.3 Kg sinker weight is still bearable for experienced southern islands anglers. More importantly Fishing ground - rocky/snaggy seabed ard 60M depth Bait used - netted live squid One of those unique night trips whereby fishes prefer squid strip more than whole live squid or squid head. Moreover, a very strong pull doesn't mean a hook up till "striking crazily" approach is adopted to ensure positive hook up. Lost 2 strong take(pre-dawn hrs) when hook up were not positive. Bite rate was sporadic for the whole night from abt 11pm onwards (every half hr or so) & lasted till day break Biggest snapper was landed just after day break. Majority of the snappers(biggest 6.5 lbs on boga) were landed with netted arrow squid strip. As in most cases, pics wrap the final story Should the pics interest you to do heavy sinkers weighlifting to become prospective "fishing arno" at southern islands, more info/details available at "chartered trips" section of this forum Enjoy Yew Seng |

Thanks for resizing the pics. Pls continue to do so for any future pics that I'm posting should the sizes need to be corrected. Will try to learn how to resize pics to be within size specs. Currently using Photoshop & only know how to shrink down the file size. Best regards Yew Seng

Option now available for you to change your 30 Apr day trip to 23 Apr night trip since 24 Apr day trip is considered cancelled. 23 Apr night current is pretty good. Bright moonlight though & if still manage to net some live squid, I'm expecting some good action either around midnight or pre-dawn hrs. Pls let me know ASAP on your final date reservation. Fishing the shipping lane during slack flow window period is one of the option but there's quite many other places besides shipping lane with depth >50M. For the night trip on 12 Apr, spot is not within shipping lane & ended up staying at only one spot throughtout the whole night. Somewhat lucky as squid can be netted at the same time while fishing & also sporadic bite rate every 15-30 mins. If only the fish take for that night is more aggressive, total no. of fishes landed probably can be 20 pcs !!! Give me a call or drop me a PM when kurau fishing is concerned as I won't post details in a public forum Btw, among the 12 fishes landed, 11 of them were landed with fluorocarbon leader(Seaguar). Best regards Yew Seng
