Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Sooner than it should b Having enjoyed the local ang cho strike rate when they are in season, perhaps temptations to wet a line was just simply hard to resist. Received a call on 16 Oct afternoon "YS, since I'm going to Australia only on 19 Oct, what abt trying for the ang cho again tonite?" "OK, On !!! ,what time?" I replied As in previous trip, 1 kaki can reach boat berth only ard 2230 hrs. Reached boat ard 2130 hrs but owner was even earlier & had more or less already prepared boat to set off anytime. With much time in hand while awaiting for last kaki, we decided to head out to sea nearby hoping to drift for some live squid. SE wind blowing at abt 8-9 knots, moderate haze with visibility at abt 4 NM. As the current & wind are opposing each other, boat doesn't drift much. No live squid sighted during drifting till abt 2230 hrs & we headed back to clubhouse to pick up the last kaki. Off we go to fishing ground. Current then is at abt 1+ knots but want to target the bigger ang cho & we headed straight to the deeper spot which had produced the biggest ang cho(golden snapper) during the previous trip. Initial 2 hrs or so, was using 800g sinker to hold bait near bottom. No fish biting till abt 0300 hrs & also not a single squid sighted. After current had slackened considerably(400g sinker), finally first snapper(est 800g) was landed. However, bite rate wasn't hot. Only a "Black kaci" was landed for that tide till dead current. Re-anchored for current change. Very few jellyfish sighted sighted for the whole nite. Only managed to net 1 arrow & 5 small squid. By 0600 hrs, additional 2 small fishes(snapper & sweetlip) & a ray (est 11-12 kg) were landed. A barracuda was also hooked but broke the mono leader near boat's swim platform. A tanker at close vicinity was retrieving its anchor as well as sounding its loud horn for some mins. Reluctant we may be at that "bewitching hour" but for safety reasons, we decided to shift spot. Managed to get a few more table sized ang cho & a small grouper before trip ended at abt 0900 hrs. Final tally 6 pcs small ang cho 1 pc small grouper 1 pc small sweetlip 1 pc black kaci 1 ray (est 11-12 Kg) - not in pic as its meat had been cut Not a trip with interesting strike rate nor big ang cho but overall still an enjoyable short local trip. Hopefully, we get to see more ang cho as well as respectable size grouper that lurks in local waters on our next trip. |
