SCS 01-02 June

Overall, a good trip with very good bite rate though landing rate was low. Lost at least 10 good size fish.

Still unable to attach pics in here.

Anyway, anglers have also taken more pics themselves which can be viewed at following

YS,

Looks like another good trip for you and your charter.... I may just give you a call for a charter one of these days...

Are you guys having low/no current conditions on your side of the pond too?.... We have had zero to know current at night-dawn for the past 2 weeks, but on the other hand we have had flat seas and little wind too...

Regards,

DFM

Hi DFM,

Looking forward to have you onboard one of these days.

Very nice current with change of direction at every 6-7 hrs cycle.

However, sea state wasn't that favorable. Pretty windy blowing SE (15-25 knots) at SCS. 1-2M swell & occassional white caps. At one of the wreck, boat was facing wind direction whereby current is flowing towards bow.

Hi Mark,
Some big eye trevally were landed during night time jigging with small lumi jig at wreck. Some were landed using squid strip.

Best regards

Hi Mark/Mike,

Yes, sometimes they do come in big nos. During a trip to SCS wreck last year, anglers C&R abt 20 of them while night jigging at one of the SCS wreck. Happened on the same trip whereby angler also hook up a small marlin.

Noticed that when there's lot around, the sizes are usually smaller unlike those in the 2-3 Kg landed during recent trip.

Most of the SCS wrecks beyond 25NM of Horsburgh lighthouse can produce big eye on jigs. Usually can produce at least few of them at each wreck. Apparently, hit rate on jigs is better during nights with brighter moonlight.

Yet to meet a group who's totally dedicated to jigging for my SCS wreck trips. Most of the jigging is done by only 1 or 2 anglers onboard while awaiting bottom fishing for a bite. Personally, I'll think that jigging at SCS wrecks should be just as effective when bite rate for bottom is hot. As the physical demands on anglers are higher for jigging, not many bottom anglers can endure for long whenever hit rate is low. Most bottom anglers give up on jigging upon seeing bottom bait gets most of the bite. Part of the reason probably is the confidence in getting a hit with jig for non-dedicated jigging anglers.

Another factor being targetted species. "Food" fish (snapper, grouper etc.) are targetted by bottom anglers & hit rate on jigs had been low when compared to bottom bait. Percentage of C&R tackle fun fishing anglers among SG angling population is very low (probably mere 3-5%). Nonetheless, on days whereby hit rate with jigs by tengirri(food fish) is hot, bottom anglers probably have no hesitation throwing whatever jigs they can find in their tackle arsenal.

Travelling time to such SCS wrecks from SAFYC Changi is abt 4.5-5.0 hrs whereby only a 2D1N trip is feasible.
