Parrots galore! HB with Kee Siong (21-22/4/7)

Was out with Kee Siong over the weekend at HB. Mixed group but very optimistic gang...ordered 3kg live prawns and 3kg Kelong sotong

Trip started off pretty well with a lot of bites from Parrots...the day bite was generally quite good. We managed to net perhaps over 100pc of large arrow head squid and che bak at night. Small squid were not sighted.

Unfortunately the Ungahs were not biting No Kacis as well, kinda surprising...and the tandas seem to have gone into hiding too!

The current was pretty strong. Was using sinkers larger than size 14 for most of the trip...somewhat unusual as KS doesn't usually fish spots with strong currents.

We tried waiting at a wreck for Jews but no takes.....Where did the Ungahs go to??? ....perhaps there was too much bait around

Overall catch:

Parrots galore
2 x Ang Gaos
3 x Ungahs
1 x Benang
1 x Marble ray
Tee boons, groupers etc.

Thanks for the report Mark. Nice parrots!!!

This is interesting ....... two weeks in a row of bad night fishing in the SCS. The arrows should have brought the ungahs in with them rather than a case of too much bait around. My friends experienced ZERO night bites last weekend out at Horsburgh area. Another group fishing on a Bintang charter boat did miserably for night fishing too. The Bintang group managed to troll over 10 batangs in the morning though.

The fact that Kee Siong was not fishing his usual spots showed that his usual spots had not been producing & as such, he was trying hard to find fish for you guys by trying other alternatives. Hmmmmm .... hopefully it's just one of those slow periods and not a case of the trawlers clearing the stocks!

Yo Mak,

The night bite was very very disappointing indeed...very sporadic with no real window and only 3 fish landed, 2 Ungahs and a Shark More than half the anglers gave up waiting and retired to the bunk.

At least we got to take back some nice Parrots Personally got the largest parrot, near the 3kg mark I believe...took line from my newly acquired Jigger NR 2000P which I must say is a very sweet reel This particular parrot had a broken ringed tin hook embedded in its mouth....a battle souvenir perhaps from a victorious duel with an Indonesian fisherman

Hi kakis,
F Y I, was in Tanjong Uban, Bintan having my foot reflexology session ....
A Fishing Pawang pop in n we chatted about fishing .... He has this advice; better fish more now as next month current changes will bring the fishes away ....
Seems like his advice come true .... earlier.... Well ....
Cheers,
