My Mood: Rep Power: 6 ![]() ![]() | DuPont 4 - FC 1 Was out at the southern islands again with the gang...one of those rare days when the lone DuPont stalwart totally outfished 4 other FC converts Mack who swears by Dupont landed the 2 largest groupers and 2 largest Ungahs Largest grouper for the trip was around the 6kg mark, followed by a 5kg and 4kg specimen...squid was fairly abundant but only in the later part of the night...the pesky barracudas were making things difficult again...very satisfying overall catch although Mack totally dominated the score board Let's hope it gets even better in the coming weeks ![]() Last edited by MarkR : 29-09-2007 at 10:01 PM. |

I am also hoping for that accidental cross path with AC school with the same gang. With this skipper, there is a reasonably good chance that we can be at the right time and the right place. Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Re: DuPont 4 - FC 1 Before the trip, organiser sms to inform us to bring heavy duty tackles and thick leader. As our main aim tonight is Giant grouper, so i brought my newly built Extreme X-calibre 4 and jigger 4000 with 80lbs. Was rushing down from work as organiser want us to board the boat at 7pm. Normally, i am the last to reach but for this trip, someone is slightly later than me . By 745pm, the boat is parked at botak hill, trying to scoop squid before the moon is up. Forgot to mention, the moon is very big and round that night.....But current is medium to slow, suitable for grouper fishing. After 1 hours, the catch is very bad....only 3 squid, 2 mullet and 4 garfish. Sadly, we proceed to our first fishing spot. As the current at 10pm was still fast, skipper choose a shallower (20m) location. I remember this place cos we landed more than 15 Angcho in one of our previous trip. Too bad, after 1 hour, only 1 nurse shark is caught here. At our 2nd spot, skipper took 15mins to circle around as the wreck kind-of disappear. A big ship must have anchor onto the wreck and destroy the small wreck. Spent 30mins here without luck. At 1am, we move out to the deep channel. Saw a beacon behind the boat. Current has slow down and i was using size 10 weight in 35m of water. Using kelong squid, i caught a gelama. Everyone's expectation was high cos 2 weeks ago, the same group caught many groupers here. At 2am, i notice a small dip on my rod. As we are fishing very deep water, i think that it is not wise to strike with rod in hand. I waited for the rod to dip thrice before i reel my jigger to strike the fish. My rod turn into a ugly U- shape. With 80lbs main line and 60lbs dupoint for my leader, i force the fish up without it taking a inch of line out. A 9lbs grouper with pop up eyes appear. Skipper lift up the grouper with leader and fish drop into the water. Immediately, he scoop the fish using the sotong net. what a close experience . Robert was complaining that a fish kept on eating his bait so he strike and caught a 1kg angcho here. After 2 hours, as we are focusing on squid. Tony's genesis 4-7 and torium bend. Initially, angler had a hard time cranking as the torium 20 is kind-of under-gun when going to big fishes. Another 9lbs grouper surface. Frank then took out a 500gram cuttlefish to use as bait. There was a bit on this giant bait. A 10lbs barracuda was caught. I caught another 9lbs barracuda on a 4 inch mullet. At about 5am, i felt a small take on my live squid. As usual, i force the 2kg angcho up. At 6am, while holding the rod, i felt a fish pulling the line downwards, i lift up my rod slow and felt that my line got heavily. Immediately, i crank my jigger 4000 and the rod bend into a C-shaped. Felt that it is a slightly bigger fish. As usual, I force 12.5lbs grouper up. Fish came out with popped out eyes again. After this fish, i give up my position to Mark cos fish is bitting on the right side of boat. Within a span of 45mins, Frank and Mark landed 2 angcho, 1 grouper and 1 barracuda. Though i shift to middle of the boat, i caught a 3lbs angcho. We concluded the trip with 4 grouper - 12.5lbs, 9lbs, 9lbs and 3lbs 5 angcho - 5lbs, 4lbs, 4lbs, 3lbs and 3lbs 3 barracuda - 10lbs, 9lbs and 8lbs cheers Last edited by mack : 02-10-2007 at 10:07 PM. |
