I was tempted to conclude that either another fish farm's net failed or another religious society fish release episode. I could be wrong, but from the first picture of the fishes in the blue pail, I noticed that these are not the regular merahs that are bred by fish farms. Looking at the black tinge in the colouration, they look like a sub-species of merah called estuarine red snapper and they taste much better than the merah we are used to. They do not grow much bigger either. We used to catch them in small quantities at the Hyundai area in the late 90's before the reclaimation covered up the spots. If I am right about the species, I sure hope that the sudden influx of this fish is not a harbinger of another severe geological event in our region. | |
