Black Threadfin aka "Orh Ngor" Catch Report

Catch Report 16-12-2006

Only took 2 pics an hour after we hit the first spot... total catches include:

6 Pcs threadfin salmon (2kg - 5kg)

7 Pcs Ang Chor (1kg - 3kg)

Countless sotongs (More than hundred pieces left over at the end of the trip, enough to fill up three small plastic bags)

Didn't took any pics in the end bcos hands were very dirty handling those sotongs.

Btw, neva knew threadfin salmon tasted so great, better than groupers and ang chors. Although the fish is quite big, the meat tasted like small fish, soft and smooth.

FANTASTIC CATCH!!!!

If it is not from any secret spot, could you share the location where they were they caught?

Kurau is considered by many to be the best eating fish around. This is reflected by the high prices it is sold at; anywhere between $25-35/kg. The bigger the specimen, the higher the price per kg. I love to pan fry kurau steaks in butter. YUMMY!!!!! The head is awesome eating too!!!

Wow !! Awesome kurau catch from local waters

More so when landed during night trip. During year 2004 kurau frenzy run, I'd spent quite a few nights with my own time to know more about kurau feeding characteristics. My faint memory is only abt 2 pcs landed between night fall till day break.

The boat seem to be from Penjuru river(or Tuas basin) & my guess for the location that these kurau were landed is somewhere along Sinki fairway or 50-100M off Jurong Island reclamation breakwater. Some of the Penjuru boat like to fish near a yellow buoy

Missed those days whereby kurau can be landed almost everyday

Hopefully these batch of kurau hang around long enough for me to wet some lines & my dream kurau catch(>10Kg) comes along

Nice catch of quality eating fish.

YS, just wondering whether you get kurau from the Marine Parade wreck.

When kurau are around, they can be landed from Tekong waters up to Sultan Shoal.

I'd ever mentioned in one of the forum, kurau landings in our waters may be a good forecast for abnormal sesmic events around this region. Threadfin salmon have Qty.10 ground feelers but I'm getting more convinced with every passing event that unique animal instinct is probably applicable here.

Kurau landed by Sashimi were on 16 Dec 2006 & there was an earthquake in Sumatra 2 days later.

Year 2004 kurau fenzy accompanies with it the major tsunami.

Year 2005 kurau landings were usually near to dates whereby minor quakes/tremors were reported in Indonesia.

Perhaps scientist can learn more about sesmic activities around this region by tracking kurau/fish movements
