Another Hard Day's Night .......

Man ....... this barat season is making life real hard to get some decent local fishing time .. let a alone a decent catch. After getting whiplashed by that super duper barat 2 weeks ago that hit us with 30knot winds; we decided to go for another overnight trip to try our luck. Weather started up really nice & calm ..... then came the west winds & rain again ...... but a mere "whisper" compared to what hit us on the previous trip!!!! Yet again .... a solitary good fish made the trip memorable for all. Total catch as follows:

4 unga less than 1kg - 2kg+
1 green eye grouper less than 1kg
1 Mangrovejack 10lbs on the Bogagrip
4-5 roti pratas Less than 1kg - 10kg or so

Unable to post pictures as error message (unable to retrieve website -- or something like that) keeps on appearing .... perhaps the pictures have more dignity than this forummer & are too embarrassed to show themselves in this forum in the wake of the excellent pictures from the maestros' Bali trip

With great humility, I post my menial catch pictures for the local bait-soaking trip. Did not have the time to lay them together for a group picture so I just snapped them where they are using my handphone camera. The MJ pic don't really do it justice. Will try to find another pic from a different angle & post it later. The first two photos are taken after draining the live baitwells & the 3rd taken of two of the fishes in the boat freezer as they did not survive in the baitwell.

Niiiiccceeeee.... fishies.......

I just got back from the beach after going there with the intention of towing the boat to my friends workshop to get the engines overhauled and serviced. I was greeted by a mama of a squall. I reckon winds peaked at over 90kmh, my Patrol was rocking in the wind dude and there was a mini Khamsin whipping off the beach.

Boy was I glad I was not out on the water. That dang typhoon hopping around off the Marianas sure is kicking up a fuss. Glad you guys recovered nicely.

The fish fought well with pretty impressive bursts of speed keeping my 870N sidplate slighty warm to the touch & made me suspect it was a decent size stingray initially. Then again, some people are of the opinion that stingrays & most bottom dwellers caught on bait fight like sacks of wet potatoes and presents no challenge whatsoever & best left to baitsoaking old men ... which I already am

Great catch in lousy weather. Seldom see good size mangrove jack caught in singapore waters.....

Have not been out fishing in the sea for a few weeks already. From your posting, understand that the windy season has started. In your opinion, when will htis rough batch of weather clear? Every year, the sea turn rough on july/ august.

Going up to sedili this weekend for a day trip.....hopefully, the weather will be kind on me.

Hmmmmm ... hang on ... let me go check my photoshop folders to see how many more versions of Mangrove Jack I have to slowly post over time.

Actually, this is only my third MJ of this size over the 15 years or so we have been fishing that spot. The 10 pounder is the largest one to date for me. Sparodically, anglers who fish this spot will get good size MJ's. Here's another one I caught in the late 90's from the same spot.

As for when the barat season will end, it is a tough call these days as the weather patterns have changed dramatically over the last few years.

Mangrove Jack is one of those super nice eating fish and they fight really well.

It was a shame that i got them through an Indonesian fishing pond only and never in deep sea before.
