9th February Tanjong Rhu

Guess what the three Amigos would do when there is no need for them to either accompany wife [Edy], girlfriend [Adrian], and praying on innocent woman [Chris]? [I have no choice but to specify names, just in case their wife or girlfriend is reading this forum] They are out fishing!

Due to our commitment to work [as if we really bother about that, 65% of our working hours are spent in chat channel #bluewater to either discuss about various kind of tackles & fishing equipments, sharing fishing spots, or busy organising fishing trips] we decided we shall do a quickie inshore fishing trip that evening. Joining us this evening was Vincent.

We gathered at Tanjong Rhu for the night’s fishing activity. Strong cold sea breeze blowing along with the view of “No Sign Board Seafood” restaurant, and “Oasis” Taiwan porridge restaurant in sight, sent our imaginations wild again, and we begin to fantasise about all kind of fishes we might be able to catch there. In the course of doing so, every now and then we get small little nibbles here n there.

Not long into the night, we spotted unusual activities happening on Vincent’s rod, his rod sent out tiny vibration indicating there is something on the other end inspecting the baits. Four pairs of eyes gathered around to stare at the rod tip, but none of us has got any idea what we are in for. After minutes of waiting, Vincent got impatient and decided that it's time for him to retrieve the line.

Vincent’s rod bend increases as he start retrieving his line, the more line he gain the more his rod bend. As usual, speculation on what could it be started among the Amigos, big plastic bag, old discarded shoes were among our guesses. [Cannot really blame us right, although Singapore is known as the garden city, but Kallang River is never famous for its clean and clear water leh]

Vincent proved us all wrong when he brought his line back to shore – he caught a 2kg Shark! There is no need to rub your eyes, neither did you read wrongly nor there was a typo mistake. A 2kg Shark at Kallang River! [Now we finally know why “Thai Shark’s Fin” restaurant set up a branch around that vicinity]

In order not to cause panic among the general public who utilize Kallang River as a venue for their water sport recreational activities. We would like to take this opportunity to emphasis the shark caught was merely a harmless nurse shark, not those man eating great white sharks you saw in “Jaws” movie. [Disclaimer: The author of this article and the management of this website did not in anyway indicate it is safe to swim or conduct water sport around Singapore waters. Please don’t take legal action against us, should your ass got bitten by some sea creature]

As for the rest of the night, we got nothing else except small nibble here and there which we strongly believe that the culprit are the crabs. This suspicion was later confirm when a group of young people came crabbing.

Conclusion

Best Fisherman Award – Vincent – 2kg Shark
Kosong Fisherman Award – All the three Amigos
