Rep Power: 5 ![]() | 7th February 2004 - Southern Island Trip Its weekend, the three Amigos [Adrian, Edy, & Chris] are up to no good again! This time we are off on yet another fishing trip. This time its organised by Mike “the fishing guru”, accompanying us was Vincent and Mr. Space. With our hands filled with fishing equipments, food, baits, and drinks, we marched to the “marina” and unload all our stuff on to the boat. It was on the board when we recieved the first hand feel on Mike’s pre-warning about our “Grumpy Boatman” – Captain Ah Tan. After his complain on our selection of baits, the boat’s outboard begins to pur slowly as we “tiptoed” out of the “marina”. Why the caution, you may ask. Well, it was low tide the whole stretch of the fairway along the “marina” was crisscrossed with debris and rocks. When the entrance towards the sea first came to sight, Ah tan accelerate his throttle. Taking us to the vicinity of the Southern Islands, with occasional stop along the way. The only battle we fought before dinnertime was the strong current and heavy sinker. Our first catch of the day was a small “finger mark snapper”, reeled in effortlessly by Adrian while checking his bait. Adrian caught two more “finger mark snapper” consecutively using the same method, before the night quiet down again. Under the circumstances when there is no fish biting, cold wind blowing and rocking boat, it is only natural that Vincent and Chris fell asleep. Under the starry sky of the Southern Islands, Edy and Mike fought their “Z” monster by chitchat with each other. While chatting, Mike noticed Vincent’s spinning rod was bending, Edy who was nearest to the rod, went on to strike and land the fish before waking Vincent up. By the time Vincent woke up, he was greeted by his first fish of the night. Inspired by his first catch, Vincent managed to stay up to land his second and largest catch for his this trip, a 1.3kg sweetlip. At the verge of giving up hopes for catching any fish, Mike landed a deep sea bass before the dawn breaks. Before we pack up and leave, Edy and Chris caught their first fish of the day, seemingly to educate them that the theory of “its not over till its over” holds truth in it. Journey back to the “marina” was relaxing and enjoyable, as Captain Ah Tan cruise near to the beaches along Sentosa Island. Don’t know about the rest, but Chris was trying his best to locate some bikini babe along the beaches. Back at the “marina”, it’s the usual standby fish photo taking session, before all pack up and head back to our home sweet home. Conclusion Best Fisherman Award – Adrian – 1.5kg “Finger Mark Snapper” Most Valuable Fisherman Award – Adrian & Vincent – 3 fishes each [Adrian – 3 “Finger Mark Snapper”, Vincent – 1 sweetlip, 2 “Deep Sea Bass”] Last Minute Fisherman Award – Chris – “Deep Sea Bass” Kosong Fisherman Award – Mr. Space Best Singer Award – Edy – Still the same old “Yea Shanghai” tune [We pray that he learn some new songs for the next trip] Best Chant Award – Adrian - “Ang Chor, Ang Chor” “Dead Meat” Fisherman Award – Adrian – Landed all three fishes while checking his bait Eskimo Award – Mike – The only person who managed to survived the trip with just a sleeveless t-shirt [All the rest covered ourselves with windbreaker] Sleeping Beauty Award – Vincent, Mr. Space, Captain Ah Tan, Adrian and Chris – All these personnel fell asleep during the fishing hours Mr. Beautiful Leg Award – Edy – Stripped down to his boxer shorts half way through the trip Blur Sotong Award – Vincent – Yelled Sotong!
