1st April 2004 - Offshore Jurong Island

The lower then expectation result from our Mapur trip, could not fully satisfy our fishing addiction, so we decided to arrange a quickie session right after work. Every one of us, find ways and means to get off work slightly earlier today, and rush off to the pier for our this mini quickie fishing session.

The one-hour ride out to sea provided us the opportunity to set up our tackle and have our dinner. Just 3 minutes after the anchor was secure, Mike got a successful hook up with jigs, yes there is nothing wrong with your eyes, Mike actually caught a 2kg+ “Ang Chor” on jigs in local water. Shortly after he landed his fish, Adrian’s rod bended hastily and he did his trademark strike and the hook was set. He took not much effort to land yet another good size “Ang Chor”.

Meanwhile among all these action, Derrick sat quietly at the back of the boat and landed another “Ang Chor”. All these happens within minutes after the boat was anchored, making us believed that we are lucky enough to hit a school of “Ang Chor”. Before we know it, the icebox on board was almost filled with “Ang Chor” ranging from 800 grams to 4kg+, with everyone having their fair share of fun except me. As I was about to give up and resign to my fate, I felt a strong tag at the end of my line. I reacted naturally by striking hard, once the hook was set; the fish started his dash, making my drag work overtime. I held onto my rod tight as the fish makes its run, suddenly I felt someone tapping my shoulder and heard a voice in a distance shouting: “Chris! Oie Chris! Wake up! We reach the fishing spot already! Can start fishing already.”

I woke up reluctantly, rubbing my tired eyes like a little baby realising what happened just now was merely a dream. Still in sleepy mode, I proceeded to set up my tackle and start today’s fishing expedition. Within the few short hours of this mini quickie fishing session we changed several spot but none of us managed to land anything. All we feel was little nibble here and there. Mike is the only angler on board whom successfully landed a fish – a 50g “Kelong Chic”.

As much as we wanted to continue fishing, due to our work commitment, we had to stop fishing and pack up slightly after midnight to rush back to shore with a totally empty icebox. But because of the great company, none of us is at all disappointed with today’s result.

Since we caught no fish, there won’t be any stand by fish photos to show. So I shall end this catch report with a photo of our Mike ‘the guru’.

By the way, before I forget, on behalf all the management and crew of www.fishingouting.com, we wish you a Happy April Fool’s day.
