Kingie bashing at the Rangatiras & White Island

Some pics from a recent Kingie jigging trip

Fished 3 days...day 2 at the remote Rangatiras plateau was excellent...we were screwed by the weather on day 1 and white island didn't produce as expected on day 3 partly due perhaps to a lack of current.

Here's a picture of the biggest fish weighed at 27kg...

Second biggest Kingie also landed by Frank Lin (on a hooker!) was approx 23kg...

Total catch for 3 days approx 50-55 fish for 4 anglers...no hapuka, no bass

Couple of fish around 15kg+ and a lot of rats unfortunately...

Maverick lost a monster when it reefed him at the 160m Rangatiras

Finally put my dancing magic aluminum jig to good use

Kingies fight darn hard especially in shallow water...

Wish we had done 3 days at the Rangatiras man!!!!

Kingies sure fight hard. That's very nice fishes you've got there. I sure can learn something from you guys. MarkR, may I ask what colour jigs did u get them on. Where I jig they only love a few colours, making them quite hard to get

Hi David,

Pink & Blue were the good colors...strangely the kingies at white were not keen on bottom weighted jigs...they seemed to prefer slider jigs

Yeah, Pink and Blue seems to be the best for kingies, I wonder why. Some of the more popular jigs used in Sydney is Turkey slider, Shout Stay and River 2 sea Knife jigs.

Hi Jon,

Yes, still happy with 54 MHB but for lighter jigs...300g-400g very nice with this rod

Is Carpenter coming out with a new jig rod series anytime soon?

cheers,
mark

Hi Mark ,

Unfortunately , no jigging rod for a few more months and no new model . The " B " version is difficult to source as they are not popular among the Japanese anglers , supply is far in between , better keep yours .
