My Mood: Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Greetings from the Carribeans.... Hi FOs, As I'm stationed in the Carribeans now. As usual I try to do fishing in my spare time after work. Manage to cast net for some sprats(tambans)as they are known here locally...& took the boat out during sunset into the mangroves with 02 of my colleagues,01 thai & 01 balinese.Depth of only 10ft max. We caught a couple of Nassau Groupers, largest was a 04kg,a Grey Snapper 03kg(looks like our MJ),a Mutton Snapper 03kg & the rest were crispy sized Grunts....for the frying pan,yummy.... we had so much fun. Till next time......will try to post some scenic shots of the Carribeans soon....enjoy.. Rgds. R. |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Re: Greetings from the Carribeans.... Hi, Better not indiscriminately eat everything you catch there because ciguatera poisoning is endemic in the Carribean. Depending on where you are, the giant bluefin tuna does swing by the Bahamas as part of their migatory route. Best regards, Makaira |

Hi Makaira, Thanks for the reminder. Yes,ciguatera is very common especially with the Barracudas, when caught off the reefs.Last 02weeks,we had a local & his family all got sick from eating Barracuda, the symtoms are diarrhea, vomitting, lost of appetite & at times falling of hair....Fortunately they are all fine now. Hi R, You have to be aware that ciguatera is present in ‘cudas because they feed on reef fishes that have ciguatera in them from the corals & other reef matter they feed on. The larger the fish, the more ciguatera it has in it because it continually builds up in their system as they feed throughout their life cycle. As such, best to abstain from eating the big mama reef species or large specimens of predators like cudas & mackeral. Just stick to the table size stuff to lessen the risk. Best regards, Makaira | |

My Mood: Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Re: Greetings from the Carribeans.... Hi Lance, Yeah, for myself, prefer to use the tambans for bait too,,,,,,,,,, The ballyhoo rigs are more for trolling for Wahoos,Mahi mahi & barracudas...apparently you catch more with them than the artificial lures here in the Carribeans.....
