A report from top french jigger, Claude Porte: Hi everybody I come back from a fabulous jigging trip in Rodrigues Island; I have fished with Captain Yann Colas aboard his boat "Black Marlin" from Rodfishingclub. With me was some friends from Reunion Island Cilaoser, Christian, olivier, Greg and I Claudius. Together we have fihed twice the eastern great bank (about 50/55 miles from Rodrigues) In our first Eastern great bank the sea was calm, maybe too calm without wind, during the way to the bank we have seen one marlin takes the lure but jump out the hook, then, when we arrive on the bank we caught a lot of wahoos, YellowFin Tuna, dorados.., but everybody wait until we can begin at the evening our jigging session. we have caught during this session a lot of fihes with many GT (until 28kg by cilaoser), caranx lugubris, groupers and of course many doggies, some little to the big on by Christian 64kg. The second bank was completely crazy, more productive; the sea was choppy, with some moderate wind, it was full moon and the current was strong enough (two knots) Trolling give us a lot of fishes, more than the previous time, but jigging session from 8pm to 12pm, and from 6am to 10 am was enormous. I tell you only about the bigger fishes for me I have the luck to caught one 40kg doggy and two other big ones, one of 63.5kg, the second 64.5kg (doggies) Christian caught one fabulous 104.5kg doggy (world record in 130lb line in progress, the previous record was at 104kg) Christian caught in addition a nice white tip shark around 80kg greg caught a nice GT of 31kg, and a 18kg jobfish (the world record is 20.5kg!) Every anglers have had one or more big ones at their hokk, with fabulous rushes, strong fight but with oepned hooks, broken line, jump out the hook so with some big fishes you must have some luck in order to win the fight.... I try to put on the forum some pics. regards claudius --------- Land of the 60kg over doggies! If you dream to catch a big doggies, Rodrigues is certainly da place! Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: 104.5 Dogtooth caught at Rodrigues! Hi, I've visited the site mentioned above and read about the facts of the gear they used for a 104.5kg 'Thon a dent de chien'. It stated that they used Owner S77 size 7/0 with a River2Sea - Sea Rock 300gr. Owner S77, as we know is a 'stinger' hook. I wonder, how did they use it into a Sea Rock jig ? Was it as an assist or just for tail hook ? Does anyone know how they did it ? cheers, |
