Thank you for the info on the J/M 500g special. I am leaning towards fast action rods for jigging too although I know some of my mates like the parabolic action. I used a seed 56H, J/M 600 and calstar 760L in WA. I must say that the seed had the fastest action and was light but very stiff in the butt, was very fond of it until it broke. The J/M 600g cut to 5'1" was very easy to jig with but not very suitable when using high drag. So after all...I found the good old calstar to work very well although the rod I used was not purpose built for jigging. Can really pull damn hard with the calstar. Fight time cut down too. Some people say fast action, fish die you also die but I find that the shorter the fight the better for fish and angler too, less tiring man! Hey guys, there is a new 6 foot prototype calstar in sabre supposedly 30-80lb rated but has a softer tip than the 760L. The taper seems to be more drstaic than the 760L but still has similar butt power. No model number given yet and it is not a 7460 model according to mike. Just got one built. May be the more parabolic rods are suited for fast running dogtooth and other tuna, better cushioning? cheers, mark

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Mark / Jason, I intend to get a 760L built for spinning. Just got myself a cheap and good second hand Daiwa spinning reel. Planning to use on the upcoming Spratly's trip and maybe for Sambo in December. If it works, i can save myself 1k plus on buying the Saltiga or Stella. Cheers! physlo.. |

The model i got is the much older version of Saltiga. It's called Daiwa Saldua G6500. It has almost the same characteristics but....let me show you when we meet. I spent 4 hours to overhaul this reel. Cheers! physlo..

Correction, there is free spool but you will only have 5-6kg drag. Thus, what u need to do is to tighten the preset drag to higher if you require more drag.. like going for samson. I landed 10 samson in WA on the reel. Max i think can go up to 15kg. But 13kg drag will do samson if not back pain!! But, so far Taiwan trip need not to set the preset drag... i overestimate the fish there... no biggies caught Up to now still don't know whether 30kg Amberjack is stronger than samson or not. MarkR, will depend on you to land one in Bali. 55kg!! Don't forget to let us know the catch there. So far, i will 2 tica reels only lah. Tica dolphin 9000(surf reel) for popping in Spratlys and landed 20kg+ GT. Tica ST558 landed 10 samsons range 25 - 30+ kg. Not sure where Hong Kuan post my photo.. need to go down and check. Cheers, Vincent

Mark, Some advise for you if you go Taiwan on Sept. The red color fish you see on the photo here is call "big eye lian". Selling more money than Amberjack. Almost 2 times higher per 600g. So, better keep. Bottom fishing is fun and table size red grouper is $$$$. Cheers.

| Administrator | How is the drag on the reel after your samson trip? The washer and everything still intact? What i am afraid is ... after 1 time "heavy usage" all the drags or washer will be "gone" Did you modify the default drag or ? PS. wanna go rompin with me or not? April 9 and 10. Cheers, Edy |

| Administrator | If you could find out the costs for transport from SG -> JB -> SG that would be nice. Please make sure that the transport is big enough to store 3 ice boxes and our tackles also. As for JB -> Rompin -> JB, i think the other 2 malaysian friends are able to help. What do you think? Cheers, Edy |
