My Mood: Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Maldives Jan 07 Hi Edy, The red bass here is tasty, don't go for the big ones as the meat is really tough,go for the medium & table sized ones ,deep fried (teli mas) or Maldivian curry( reim mas riha)......... Don't forget to bring along your camera...... Also bring along wire leaders if you are trolling along the Thilas(underwater structures),very fun, lots of GTs,Bluefin Trevallys,Red bass,Groupers,Dogtooth Tuna..........bring size 18cm rapalas, bright orange coloured. Have fun & take care..... Rgds. R. |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Re: Maldives Jan 07 Dear R. Hope u enjoy your stay in LG. After u left, the weather turned rough but we managed to squeeze a short trolling trip when the wind subsided. You should be able to visualize the joys that u missed out based on the following description: Yesterday, we left LG at about 230pm and within 10 mins, we met a group of surface boiling bonito and 3 small size fishes were subsequently caught by the boatman. John chose a suitable bonito and proceeded to slow troll for sailfish. Unfortunately, luck is not on our side, no bite during the 30mins of slow troll. The full impact of the wave can be felt during the slow troll as our dhoni is small, I requested john to abandon sailfish trolling and continue our pelagic hunting. When we are about to reach the “Wahoo line” at the ocean side of Reethi beach resort, John had a hookup and a small wahoo of 4kg was brought up. The boatman commented that the current along the “Wahoo line” is not suitable so we proceed to troll for reef fish. As we are about to reach the first ”Thilas” on the other side of Reethi beach, John’s Avet JX ratchet went off. Our guess of GT was accurate after a fight of 15 mins. Our first GT of the day was brought up. It weighted 12kg on the scale. As this stretch is sheltered by the long reef-line, the sea is relatively calm. We circled the “Thilas” twice; many bites from small groupers can be felt but it did not connect with the hook. We moved on to the second Thilas which is nearby. On the second round, my coloured PE line spilled out of my z30 but at a slow speed. A red grouper of about 3kg was brought up without any effort. As Kurihara group will be joining us for night fishing, we decided to head back to LG early. Halfway through, at deepsea channel between reethi beach and Kamadho, John’s ratchet went off again. As John is reeling up the suspected “Wahoo”, I reeled my line back too. After 6 rounds, I felt a small nibble, after which my 18”orange duel Lure felt heavy. I though I have entangled onto John line so I stopped reeling fearing that I may cause injury to his line. Excited about John’s battle, I free-spool my reel and took out the camera to snap a few shots. Afterwhich I noticed John’s line faced the front of the boat but my line is still facing the back. Something is not right here so I continue to reel in my line. I can still feel a weight at the other end of my line. A 2kg skipjack tuna hooked on it’s body then appear. John is still struggling with his fish as it swam deep. It took 10 mins before we surface the fish. Another GT of 10kg was brought up. After a short photo session with the GT, it was dumped into hull of dhoni. After crossing the tip edge of Milandho island’s reef, a 3kg red grouper wacked john’s lure. This was the grouper’s last meal as it was brought up within 2 mins. Nearing LG, we requested the boatman to circle LG reef hoping to catch some red brass. Neither red bass nor bluefin trevally was caught on this trip but a final 1.5kg red grouper found its way to my lure and was brought up. This summed off our trolling trip. As the sea is getting choppy at 530pm, I got off the dhoni at the service jetty whil |
