    Greasing of Stock Drags

    Hi All,

    Shimano Trinidad TN40 reel

Just wondering if we are able to apply slight drag grease on the standard drags which seems to be made of Teflon or something (Not the same material as carbontex drags). Will be help to smoothen the drag?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers!

Order a set of Ctex from Smoothdrags or try and order it from Sabre Tackle @ Beach Rd. They'll give you years of reliable drag pressure without problem. Stock solid carbon drags are a pain in the butt! If you really want to retain the solid drag washers then get the drag grease from Tan Thong Cheong.

    Shimano Grease

I'm using the one with yellow label.

you should have smooth black dartanium drag washers and they are meant to be greased. they will stick over time, so carbon fiber is preferred. i'd highly recommend switching over. good luck! alan

    Hi stickbom!,

Am using Cal's Universal Reel and Drag Grease...
I have since changed my stock drags to Ctex drags with a thin layer of drag grease applied to it.

A friend asked if I apply drag grease for stock drag and I told him i never applied before and it yet it tends to stick after prolonged usage. See below..

The black ring on the main gear is those sticky stuff, and have those on the drags too..

Extracted from Alan Tani's posting..Mine look exactly like this when I opened up the reel for cleaning. Quite shocked to see the condition like this..

    Re: Greasing of Stock Drags

For the TN40, OJ4000&5000 etc, the Carbontex washers are a very worthwhile upgrade.

For those anglers who still prefer to run stock drags and put up with the sticking problems, follow Mike's advice on the Shimano grease needed. I tend to use the ACE-2 grease on the stock washers which is top left tub shown in the picture link.

For the smaller Kaikons and Jiggers, you may run into an issue with the Carbontex washers listed for the Trinidad 16-30, since I have found that the lowest washer that goes under the main gear is a bit thinner than the stock washer. This causes lower max drag results. I think Alan explains it quite well in one of his tutorials and recommends the susbtitution of a Penn HT-100 washer with some minor modification.
