Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Pemanggil 24-27 Feb 2006 Anglers: Hj Pardi DD Hj Suratman DYMM Mohd Azmee Slick Zul Zikista Suresh Nemo Bro RK Day-1: All except Nemo, met up at my residence for light dinner and we left ard 8.30pm for the checkpoint. Got held up for ard 1 hour plus and headed towards Kota Tinggi. Reached KT ard 11 pm & after a quick stock up of fruits n nasi lemak dinner courtesy of Mohd, we headed towards Mersing. On the way got a call from Nemo who's already there..." strong winds lah Bro " ... anyway, reached the jetty close to 1 am..loaded up all barangs and off we go. The plan was to stop over near Pulau Tengah & wait till the 1st glint of ray before proceeding but Razali however tot that it would make no difference if we're to wait or continue as the weather won't subside anyway. We reached the island ard 5.20am ...some 4.5 hrs of back breaking & tumbling ride I would say. Checked in & ask the guys to take a short rest before having our breakfast. Met Bob & the results were pretty dissappointing he says...only 3 macks on troll ....hoping for some divine intervention from above... 8.30am- we moved out to the FADs near Aur.....Nemo & Zul troll along the way. Normally would've reached the spot ard 1.5 hrs but somehow Razali couldn't find the usual spot...probably wiped out either by the fierce weather or trawlers. Circling ard like a lost wandering eagle,..he finally found another spot after almost 3.5 hrs. By now, Suratman & Mohd showed signs of weather effect and its a matter of time that they would succumb to the ups & downs of the boat. Not much baitfish here but we started fishing with much eagerness & anticipation.... 30 mins past and Razali was fish on....told me to reel in my line but somehow halfway up, Mr Mack managed to escape clean. Juki was next...on his spoon jigging using handline...man, this fella sure got lots of energy. An hour past and Juki finally landed the 1st Mack..a nice 3 kg species. The rest of us were just too happy to pull up kerisis on appollo jigs. Slick lost his jig when his mainline snapped after a strong pull... after that it was quiet all the way. In all, I was told that Razali lost at least 3 more. After lunch, we moved on to the next unjam but still no signs of Mackies and decided to move back closer to the unjam in front of the island. 6.00 pm - I signalled to the boys to call it a day as I felt we needed some good rest tonite to recuperate from aching due to the waves bashing of last night & the day fishing. As usual, brought back some nice kerisis & selayangs for dinner..... we turn cats for while... :P At dinner, met Bob again & was told he got only 1 Mack today plus the usual selars & kerisis. Day 2 - Suratman & Mohd both reported sick & I allowed them to stay back at the chalet but they still wanted to do some fishing at the jetty instead....sure got some hidden agenda this 2 fellas. After breakfast, we went out to the same unjam but not before a few incidences prior to moving out. !st...... we noted that we dun have anybaits left in the boat... some communication breakdown the day before resulted on the bait being left in the cooler box at the chalet...so we returned shortly and got the last pack of baits I brought from S'pore. Some 15 mins in the water close to Lanting resort.....the pump belt broke so we had to stop for a quick replacement. This period was utilised by kakis to do drift fishing and some good size leng chiams & white fish were landed. Then, Nemo suddenly announced...I wish to report sick and return back to Island after seeing at least 6 trawlers out there he says..... Alamak...apa dah dey.....after Razali completed the repair I told him to head back to island but Nemo sudenly had change of heart and decided to carry on ..... I ask him you sure or not Anyway, weather were still ferocious as the day before....so it wasn't long before both Slick & Hj Pardi became the next guest of the boat's bunker. At the unjam, we tried various methods here...jigs, live bait drifting, bottom, balloning...none gave any results. In the end it was left to Juki to land the 2nd Mack of ard 4+ kg...Razali again lost ard 3 more and Juki at least 2 more at this spot. The rest of us ...... zero except for the usual kerisis... Again after lunch, we decided to move back to the FADs near the island. Here was where again the guy Juki got the big Cobia on hand line. The big fella dived 3 times when boatman tried to gaff it and was eventually brought into the boat using 2 gaffs by Razali & Zul. Everyone was excited cos we knew the Cobia came in pairs but tried as much as we did.....the next Cobia didn't appear so probably it was in our agenda I guessed We decided to try drifting next close to the island and again only small groupers and gangster fish were landed. Looking at the body languages of the kakis, I decided to call the day much earlier and we head back to the island and as usual, the smaller catches accompanied us back to the chalet's kitchen. Suratman & Mohd meantime, "got" some nice catches from the jetty..... if you were to believe what they claimed So we ended our 2 days fishing with just 1 15kg Cobia and 2 Macks of 3- 4 kg plus some smaller groupers & lengchiams. In all my trip to Pemanggil, this was the worst catches recorded so far but I must sincerely SALUTE all the kakis in this trip for your great determination and perseverence under those difficult weather conditions. especially the 1st timers like Slick & Johari and the goldies like Suratman, Mohd and Pardi.....you all should be proud of yourself that you went through those harsh & very very difficult moments of this trip when you could have easily backed out if you wished to. Like I mentioned over dinner on the last night, I knew that some of you must have felt a tinge of regret for being on this trip during the nerve wrecking journey on the 1st night itself. So gentlemen, I'm truly sorry the trip didn't fulfill its promises in terms of catches and if in anyway I had offended anyone by my words or unwarranted doings, believe me its was purely unintentional. And if those incidences on the island weren't enough to make things more difficult, here's a few more after we reached the land.....Nemo Life Jacket was returned back on the boat by Hj Pardi.... my phone charger was left in the chalet too......and finally..... I bought 5 pcs of keropok lekor, 4 pcs of keropok ikan, 1 bottle of chilli sauce and paid for all of it and when reached home told my wife..... guessed what... So thats it kakis.....nothing spectacular on this trip and I didn't even manage to get any pics myself but SLICK should be able to post some here later...... Again to all who went for this trip, many thanks & my utmost appreciation for " being together ...regardless of the weather " Salam Bro RK

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Bro RK, Once again, thanks for the trip - am sure you have put a lot of hours on this trip, well planned and executed as usual no matter what you're the best captain for this team and will always be...with your good intentions am sure you will take us through lots more trips with great catches... for me this is not the first trip riding the waves..most of the time was not so concerned about the catches..was more worried about the safety of the seniors.. Great time at the chalet and on the boat..with Tuanku, Slick and Brada Zul, and rest of the team...thanks guys...for a great time on and in the water at the beach... Slick...thanks for the phone... I'm still not sure who caught and decided not to release that tiny JOhnson..cruel..hahaha Bro Rk seriously - tried to turn back on our way out second day because of the trawlers and the weather...then saw few faces and told myself ...what the @#$% "don't mind the wether as long as we are together"...hope I have not offended anyone.... thanks.. regards, nemo....recovering for mid march trip for macks up north

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Welcome back guys. As long the trip to and fro is a safe one the Catch Report is secondary. There will always be another time. Take care.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Nemo, really appreciate your strong support not just towards me but the whole team in particular.....again I must stressed that I'm really lost for words to come up with regards to your travelling many kilos just to join up with some jokers from S'pore be it to Tanjung Pinang or your homeland but I assume you must be one real gila kaki pancing to do that.... :P dun think I will see anyone else doing the same so for that,.. you earned my greatest respect my friend and my wish is for us to fish together for as long we're fated to ya.... Ozzy.....wah the DSG people :P ..... thanks and yup...the next one is just around the corner..... InsyaAllah,...this kind of setback is nothing new for most of us oldies and I sincerely hope the new ones will appreciate the valuable experiences & lessons learnt that fishing is not all about catches alone...but to value friendship, support & understanding for each other during difficult times....and most importantly...believe & accept in fate. Rgds Bro RK
