Mapur 4 - 6 th June Catch Report

Anglers:
1. Sha- Sha Boleh Aje
2. Osman-G
3. Shah- Fishpullipull
4. Edros - Physlo
5. Zul - Zikista BMB
6. Sarimen
7. Bro RK

Tekong & Crews: Am & 3 Amigos- Zulman, Atan & cook Suratman
Weather: Sightly windy & choppy on 1st day,...variably good & hot from 2nd - 3rd day.

Due to unfavaourable currents, we didn't fish at the shipwreck as earlier planned cos after discussing with Tekong, we went to an old wreck 4 hrs from Trikora. Basically, I was told that there were 3 spots here which are about 30-45 mins travelling of each other.
As I was ICUed on the 1st day, ..can't recall much of the action but I did manage to observe some good actions from kakis just close to midnite when the biggies strike hard. Groupers & Kacis of 3 - 4 kg were brought up and heard Edros lost a real big one where his hooked snapper was taken by a big mama grouper...leaving him to content with only the red head .
More of table size fishes were hauled in the next morning and the only catch worth mentioning was from tekong who got a nice 2.5 kg coral trout Osman witha nice size Parrot and Edros with a similar size Bulat, 1 and only for this trip.

By now I was feeling much better and the boys was heavy on a Nasi Lemak lunch whipped up by Zikista. I settled nicely on a bowl of maggie mee and felt quite confident that I would be up & ready for battle by that afternoon. Till noe can still feel that powdery stuff tekong gave to me..hmmmm..like jamu ubat periuk...yaakkkk..

We moved on to another spot late afternoon but bites was still slow. Only closed to dusk did it started to up tempo slightly and upon taking up my usual spot on the boat, I pulled up a few nice size kacis & kees. After dinner, suprisingly Mr Jahan decided to visit us from outta nowhere but I guess its still a great welcome for us..I got no complains...been a while we hit them in Tanjung Pinang.

Tekong suddenly decided to make a return to the old wreck spot to try our luck again....could see the gleaming eyes from the boys...always full of hope. When we reached the spot, the current was almost non-existent but we just tried running our luck there and see whats gonna happen.

The anticipated action of the 1st night didn't materialised at all...bites were slow and catches were sparsely encountered. Even our usual catch of a minimum 1 Cobia and 1 Ray deserted us for the 1st time on this trip. But as usual we SEPAKERS took all this camly in our stride and as ever, grateful that the Almighty still blessed us with some great cathces and good action.

The next morning, only table size fishes were brought up and as soon as the last strip of all 15 kgs of squids were used up, I signalled for the boys to pack up and got the tekong to head to shore.

Personally, I would rate this trip a 7.0 / 10 for the variety of species that were caught. The company was excellent as usual and I'm truly happy that that everyone got to cure their "chronically fishing itch" and new boy Edros,...getting on well with the others...just hope it won't be the last time for him with team SEPAK.

So gentlemen, my sincere thanks again to all on this trip and here are some of the pics from my Gcam.

Salam
Bro RK

Bro RK,

Wow very good right up on the catch report although some details were not exact lah. Shah's snapper was the one with only the head left after 15 mins tug of war. Mine got the flesh ripped off as i was high drag. Makes it easier..no need to scale the fish. Zikista managed to catch a glimpse of that big mama. Anyway nice effort and thanks. "Me" really sucks at writing reports.

I agree with you.... the company we had is great. With all the jokes and story telling, it makes the fishing much more fun. I would love to join you guys again...especially on the...............you know where lah. Mr froggie will have to play host then.

Salam,

Hi Bros,
Well done Team. I would say it is an above average catch for Tanjung Pinang. Nice Catch Report by Bro RK too, only problem how come the reporter is in ICU on the first day ? So no report on first day report lah.
Bro Physlo,
How was the jigging result there ? Any takers ? So, you all game to venture Sabah and Srawak ha ? I would suggest, we go Sarawak during Tenggiri seasson (April to May ). If there are plenty of Tenggiri, and you do light jigging WOW !!!
If we decided to go Sarawak, I have to get permit from the Penghulu Iban 3 month before the actual date. If not, you will see sumpit here , sumpit there.
I have also made arrangement with the Penghulu for our General to meet his 120kg youngest daughter
Or if Sabah or Brunei, lets discuss with DFM when we meet him.

Cheers.

Ya lah Lek, dunno what powder they gave me till KO in sick bay...lucky not gunpowder. Even at that state, I did pop out once a while yo see how the boys are doing & if everything are ok so can see & remember some action too lah...though some facts a bit off track.

Very cruel Todak man you....the Penghulu's 120kg daughter you want to pass to me and then her 240kg twin you gasak shiok shiok until kena sign contract must come back there next year to see if there's any physical changes to her

Ok lah...cut this crap, seriously if you guys really terlalu cinta and dah jatuh cinta with Kucinta ..... ONZ lah.... Lek Todak, Zikista & Physlo..you all handle this baby project & can start planning...amacam??? game for the challenge.

Salam
bro RK

Karim,
I don't believe jigging in Tanjung Pinang will produce great results but still worth a try but had no takes. Anyway, on the last trip to Sarawak, did you go with Raymond Lim? I can't find his name card.

Zul / Bro RK,
I will try to get the contact on fishing in Sabah. Cost is estimated around $600 plus. My friend had fished there twice with good results on MJ & Kerapu Sonok. If we are lucky, we could encounter some Amberjack as well. To play it safe, i suggest we try to book somewhere between mid april to end May. Don't forget Brunei is also worth going even though the price will be slightly higher.

Salam
Edros..

Hi Edros,
Yes , I went with Raymond Lim. For contact or info for Sarawak, I always go to GenovaX of Gamefish forum. If we intend to go there next year, they can help us with some arrangement and booking. If they book for us, the price is very much cheaper .
Our Bro Nemo also maybe can help in flight booking from Senai. Lets discuss tomorrow when we meet.

Cheers.

Gentlemen,

less you are unaware...our discussion on our Mapur trip has somewhat strayed towards Kuching

So I open up another new topic for us to discuss all matters on Kucintas, Kadazans or Brunieans.

Thanks for you understanding.

Zul cut out a piece or two but not too sure if he'd used em. Yup, once cut, the sides just flap down naturally..no need to fold.
Most times, at the wreck they used whole squid...sampai nak habis umpan.. so by the time 2nd day when I started to fish, we used strips just to conserve the stock.

A few of us used the one made by me,... got some catches on it but somehow at times, cannot feel the bite at all..after 5-8 mins, pull up see bait gone.

Sha brought Tuna oil and soaked the baits in but was told it didn't work...

Tabur burley you mean?? well I dun see any burley sinker around...heard many things before the trip like using onions netting, plastic bag, stokings etc....

My opinion is: all above worth trying out again ONLY if the current is conducive cos last trip arus melintang ... upper strong,..lower slow or dead. So difficult to analyse and derive anything under these conditions & circumstances..perhaps works only in Brunei & Sarawak???

Bro RK,
I was assign in Natuna ( Matak ) and only fish when I'm back in Batam.
My " pond " now starts to produce Unga and Cobia.
After much reccee on that area .
The only problem is that we need to have fresh Sotong then they will bite.
If not " tunggu sampai naik biol pun tak makan".

Will be reccee that area again sometime in August when the
wind subside....

Regards,
az
