What I meant to say was...It was a Bat day for...my friend's Bob trip to berakit where they hit a school of dancing Batfish..

Anyway here goes for our Mapur Catch Report:

Anglers:
1. Bro RK
2. Osman-G
3. Johari
4. Shapuan
5. Zainuddin and
6. Hj Ibrahim

Tekong: Amri & crews Zulman, Atan & Suratman (chef)
Weather: slightly cloudy on 1st day but sunny & clear on 2nd day
Winds & waves: ard 20 knots most time and abt 1- 1.5 m waves average

Day 1: Sat 27th Aug-
As usual our kakis will meet up at TMFT sarbat stall for coffee/teh tarik & some light breakfast. Went to collect tickets and what a surprise...tickets price increased to $45.00 since 1st Aug. Met Bob and his grp like TC, DK Lim etc and told em abt the tickets. Anyway, journey to Tanjung Pinang was smooth and weather looks great along the way. As usual upon arrival, Jamil will be there to handle our baggage..customs clearance done and while passing thru the gate near carpark, overheard a local saying "..Ombak kuat...angin selatan lo..mancing apa " meaning big waves..southerly winds lo..fish what ..anyway off we went to the market for dry gooddies and kakis ciggies before we head to Batu 5 for lunch at Siang Malam.

1.00 pm: Reached Trikora and met up with our tekong Amri. Bob was already there and can smell durians & cempedak while walking towards our rooms. Yup...they bought em along the way and he gave us a piece of durians, 2 cempedaks & 1 nice juicy watermelon...thanks Bob ! Was told that Bob will be heading to Berakit for the Goldens...well good luck Bob. My kakis finished up the durians at the kelong itself..well at least this time not on board so perhaps Mr. D's will not come near the boat I assumed...

2.00 pm: All ready & off we went towards Mapur/Meraps area. Once we passed Mapur, I can feel the gushing winds but waves are still bearable. Reached the 1st spot ard 3.30 pm and started fishing...table size Kees and leng chiams are the agenda here. An hour past, we shifted to an Unjam another spot 30 mins away...again same agenda as 1st spot but the leng chiams are slightly bigger with the odds table size kaci...of course lots of snags here too

5.00 pm: Amri told me of his plans for the night...the wreck spot where we hit the big ones last June. Continued fishing till ard 6.30pm when its signal to move out to the wreck. Along the way, Suratman prepared dinner and for the 1st time in as many trips, he's preparing a vege dish besides the usual CW and our kakis home cooked ones. By this time Hj Ibrahim already ICU-ed. He was accompanied by Zainuddin later.....

7.30 pm: By now, currents and winds started to pick up and its getting rocky but the good thing was the fish were still biting. Here, good size kacis, kees and..guess what..3 point antennas ( Duris lah) was aplenty. Well,..guess no ones were complaining cos...better than zero bites and no hookups mates.

9.00 pm: Amri decided to moved back to our afternoon spot 30 mins away to run away from Mr. D's. Alamak, they're still around man...in between Leng Chiams but here we got some nice juvenile Red snapper, 2 x 1.5 kg ACK and Kees of good size. Well so far so good, no bats, no abang cudas for us to worry. We fished closed to midnight and zulman told me to rest as only ard 4.00 am then the current will slowed down.
Before I head down to the bunk, I ask Suratman to help prepare hot Maggie noodles in case our ICU-ed kakis woke up and got hungry.

Day 2: 28th Aug-

4.10 am: Pak,...bangun..arus dah lemah...Zulman told. Woke up and saw all beds taken up and heard some nice "debates" going on.....

Went behind and saw Zainuddin fishing with crews..hmm..probably he's feeling better so asked Suratman to prepare Maggie noodle for him. Saw plenty of Mr D's around the boat..looks like they've been tagging along our boat all this while.Put my line down and whamm wah..I told Zulman, it felt different and he saw my rod bent nicely....some resistance for abt 3 mins then managed to subdued the bugger but when it surfaced...jahan of 3.5 kg More catties join us on the boat with some more lengs-C as well.

6.30 am: We moved to another spot and Suratman prepared breakfast as usual. By now all kakis are up but Hj Ibrahim was still in bad shape...hmm..can't bring him out anymore cos this time he looked really pale.

7.30 am: Had breakfast of fried Indo mee with eggs and we continued fishng here till around 9.30 am. We had some nice groupers, kacis and kees to welcome us on this spot. Amri decided to moved to our last spot and here is where some real action were experienced. We lost around 6 biggies thru cut off leader, snagging and faulty hook knots.

9.30 am: We suspected the culprit to be Parrots and mama groupies cos not likely to be the work of Cudas...only a nice 3 kg Kaci didn't get away. I changed to steel wire and this time got a nice hooked up but clever chap, got round the high reefs before I can pull him clear...stucked and no where to go, I can feel the fish struggling on the other side. By this time our friendly mouse already found its new home in Mapur courtesy of Osman so no way to get that fella out, I decided to pull hard..it got loose but the fish got away leaving me with a twisted hook...all intact

Anyway,..after a few more table size kacis and spotted grouper we decided to call it a day and head back to Kelong at 11.00 am.

1.15pm: Reached Kelong and found out Bob had left on the 2pm ferry and had left behind some nice souveniers for our group in the form of 6 super charged Bats.

Summary:
Not a bad outing I would say (6 / 10 ) considering the weather and sea conditions and am glad we still managed some good actions throughout albiet a little short in terms of fish size......we'll return again come 25th Sept.

Some pics of our meagre tiny catches to share....sori, pics quality not so good cos converted from kakis VDcam.

If you're already sleeping reading my Catch Report,...please continue your sweet dreams ya.....

Hi Bro RK,
Thanks for the long awaited Catch Report. Not a bad catch after all, it should be slightly above average catch you all have there.
Wah, Hj Ib knock out again ha ? Nevermind as long as he can tahan looking at the sandy beaches and the jetty, it is still OK. Once he say, "it's better if we can go lepak at the sandy beach" or " at the jetty", that will be a big problem.
So Uncle Bob left one each Batman for you all ha ? So kind of him. I thought TC have tried the Batman and he like it a lot.
So, how was the new member that followed you ? Do they have e-mail add ? Have you introduced them to this forum for them to get involved also. I met them at you house, and seems to be a nice group of guys.

Cheers.

As for Hj Ibrahim, had spoken to him and we agreed that its best for him to skip Tanjung Pinang for the time being...pale and totally flat from 5pm rite till boat was back at kelong. Guess he can pair off with Hj Suratman to make a good team together...

The new ones are ok but as of my Catch Report, Zainuddin also KO - effect of diesel fumes ..... from 6 pm onwards but he did try to fish early morning and after breakfast was much better.

They dun have email addy and dun really surf or log into any forums.

Was hoping Bob leave behind some nice goldies for me....

Rgds

hai bro dorado,

trip was not so and so (4/10/), it was a new experience though.
We went out on 3 boats total Ricky, Ah boi and Ah hong's boat, main target was keterap...went out 8.45am ETA location about 45 mins time, my boat had 3 of us....as usual I caught quite a bit of fishes..ehmm..but sad to say no ketarap was hookd up by any of the boats, there was some strong pull and line burst etc...nothing big was brought to surface more than 1.5kg..barats, cuda, donno the fish name, and kerisi and kunyit and a couple of groupers (johnson), myself had half of my cooler full with these species...unfortunatley no Ketarap and no tenggiri....pictures on my hand phone, will download soon.
.
at 3pm we had to cut the trip short and head back as we was hit by "ribut", worst than Tenggol waves, at least tenggol no rain and ligtning, this one all came together...

regards
nemo

Hi Bro Nemo,
Thanks for the Catch Report. Half cooler box ? Defenately better than our Tenggol catch. Do the Johnson look like Tenggol Johnson ? Maybe they follow where you go.
No Ketarap and no Tenggiri There is always a return match.

Cheers.
